Hey everyone. I finally got to see Cumberland Falls yesterday. I live in Southern KY and I just never had time to make the 3 hour drive before. I couldn't really go during the best light. I had to be back home before dark. I shot these in the middle of the day which was difficult to say the least. It was mainly a trip for me to "be there" and enjoy the day and maybe get a couple snapshots along the way.
I'm suprised at how well my mark 3 brought stuff out of the shaddows. These cleaned up pretty nice with little post work.
Stuff I used: canon mark 3, canon 16-35mm f/2.8, canon 70-200mm f/2.8, lots of sweat
Enjoy. Critique if you want, but I already know the light is bad. Plus everyone has seen a waterfall, right?
Good job Kelly! Looks like you had plenty of water going over the falls.
I like #1 because of the scale. That's something that is hard to capture in most of the shots I've seen from here. Most shots look like a not-so-large falls until you see something like this!
Still looking forward to seeing you at a Sunny 16 club meeting. Let's get out and shoot sometime.
Understood about the time thing I know how you feel!
Come by the club forum sometime and share some shots with us (it's not just for members). I know the admin very well (me ) and I'm sure he'll let you in. Here's the link:

All things considered as you have mentioned... still a nice series Kelly.
3 and 4 are my favorites... very nice use of foreground, nice comps.
Well done for midday.
nice shots, next time you go make sure you take time to take the 3 mile round trip just around the corner from cumberland falls to eagle falls...it's a bit of a sneak with steep steps and a trek at the bottom of the steps over logs jammed at the bottom but keep on the visible path and its just around a rock outcropping at the bottom...its a gem.
Very cool location and nice takes in the harsh conditions. I like your compos a lot!
Any chance to shoot with morning or evening lighting?
Really like the stop action of the 2nd, and the comp in the 4th is excellent!
Kevin, I wanted to take the Eagle falls trip, but I just ran out of time. I did see the falls from the other side of the river. It was a rough trip going over logs and huge rocks along the river's edge, but I loved it.
Barry, I will be going back for sure. It's only 3 hours from home and I really enjoyed the place. I would think that mornings are nicer than evenings there. I will have to camp out next time.
