It was dark under "my" pijun bridge, and I am not sure how the camera (1DMkIIN) managed to focus at all in Servo AF mode despite the superbright 200 f/2 IS.
To me that focusing capability which the lens offers is as important as the IQ and IS.

Dang PetKal, that's another beautiful shot. Your BIF images are not merely technically superior, but always showcase the birds in interesting "kinetic" moments (to use yout term). Thanks for sharing.

Someday, you'll have to show us your BIF using the 15 fish!

Stupid thread. . . . . the lens doesn't really fit with my type of work but I sure would like one. I love the contrast and color saturation of the 135l because it reminds me of my Leica stuff, like the Summicron, and I feel I would like the 200 f2 just as much for the same reasons.

Yeah, though it's a lot heavier than the Summicron!

Thank you, Gary.
I have tried some BIF shots with EF 15mm f/2.8 a few weeks ago, however, it didn't go all that well.
15mm FE does PIF

Perhaps I'll have more luck with ducks later this fall .

hello

nice topic here with a lot of great shots

just got the lens, I mostly shoot 85 II but when I cannot choose the distance from the subject, I have been using a 70-200 2.8 IS

I wanted to move forward on quality and get a "85II on steroids", the prime aspect was indeed a plus because it make framing even more important, just like with the 85

I tested the lens for a week end festival, the 70-200 did not see the light at all, about 5 hours of shoot each day : the lens is quite heavy to handheld that long, but results seems great ...

Once I get to know the lens well, I will post a review !

Alain

Beautiful shots. I found the same, my 70-200 is gathering dust now I have the 200/2.

Interesting how your shots have beautiful green (bokeh'd) backgrounds as I have found this lens renders green beautifully, especially in even shaded light.

Only tried it on my dog yesterday and will use it today for CYO soccer with and without the 1.4x, want to try it instead of my 300 2.8. I think I'm going to love it though.

hello

for the shots I posted I was really careful to choose nice tree background so I was not surprised by the results, they show the different lighting I had during the 2 days shooting

I will have to use the lens longer to check if there is any color improvement over the 70-200, at this point this have not stroke me, but thank you for pointing out ... anyway I was always pleased with the 70-200 on colors !

The more I use the lens, the deeper my appreciation becomes for the ease of handling, relatively low weight and superb AF. The 200 f/1.8 is a great lens, however, the 200 f/2.0 IS is a photography tool nearing pure all-around excellence.

Thanks! I like it too.. still have trouble choosing between that one and the B&W version.

@Petkal- I agree, the lens is superb for handheld work. I totally get the sports photographer argument that they use a monopod (so IS and hand-held balance is not so important) + the 1.8 lens is 2/3 stop faster, which gives more SS which is crucial, but for candids and portraiture work, the new lens is much better. Like a 135L on steroids with IS

From hot to cool and back.
Again, 200 f/2 IS on 1DMkIIN, large aperture values, all handheld, all in natural light.
