That 200 f/2 IS looks mighty fine...

Still, I wonder what will happen to the quality/quantity of the bokeh if you shoot the 135L and 200 f/2 IS wide open with the same framing?

@Petkal

All our Tassie Devils fetch hand grenades...otherwise what use are they?

Since I do field work, what is this lens like if you pack it around on camera? I can pack plenty on my special camera backpack of around 30 to 35 pounds but with the camera on a strap how does it feel?

Its like a nuggety 70-200 2.8 IS. I dont mind handholding, but some people prefer a monopod.

As for carrying it on body....I use and highly recommend the Lightware Z300 bag.

An few years ago I had that bag for the 300 f/2.8. Well built and very similar to Tenba LL 300 case. However, there was one feature that turned out to be a hindrance: the flap cover wouldn't stay open on its own. I had to keep it open with one hand while trying to get the len into the bag with the other. I don't know if they still have that design today.

Either way, that experience made me switch to Tenba LL cases, and quite happy with those.

The 135L is pretty good for the quickest action photography, in fact amongst a few top notch Canon lenses in that regard.
Yet, the 200 f/2 IS is better in more ways than one, and it is my clear choice when it comes to shots like the three samples below. Can I do shots like those with 135L ? Well, I sure can and have done so many times even with slower and shorter lenses than 135L. However, it is the keeper rate and subtle image differences that count.

I can't really say much more about it, if one tries to do very fast action shooting with a variety of lenses, then performance differences start to emerge soon.....some lenses like 200 f/2 help ya so nicely that they put a grin on your face, others don't seem to make a difficult focusing task any easier, often harder.

(Incidentally, these were shot with 1DMkIIN. I know, probably a big handicap when compared to 1DMkIII. )

Said I would never buy this lens and looked at this damn thread for I don't know how many times and just ordered one. Can't wait to try it on the MKIII for a soccer game under the crummy lights instead of the 300 2.8. Can't wait to try it on the 1DsMKIII for portraits and other things.

Stupid thread. . . . . the lens doesn't really fit with my type of work but I sure would like one. I love the contrast and color saturation of the 135l because it reminds me of my Leica stuff, like the Summicron, and I feel I would like the 200 f2 just as much for the same reasons.

It was dark under "my" pijun bridge, and I am not sure how the camera (1DMkIIN) managed to focus at all in Servo AF mode despite the superbright 200 f/2 IS.
To me that focusing capability which the lens offers is as important as the IQ and IS.

Is that the wedding cake? Whoever chose it has awesome taste (as far as the color selection).
