Anyways, here are a few from a CFL football game last summer when I had the chance to borrow one for a few days. If anyone out there is familiar with Ivor Wynne Stadium, aka: Ivor Dim Stadium, you know it gets really dark there for night games. ISO 3200 ranging from 1/500 to 1/800 @ f/2.
I think if I was in the market for a 300 2.8 and money wasn't a primary consideration, I'd get the 200 f/2 over the current 300 2.8 IS. Image degradation with the 1.4x TC isn't significant and is still quite close to the 300 (tested them side by side) yet the IS in the 200 is much better.
Here are a couple 100% crops converted as monochrome in DPP with zero sharpening and zero NR applied. Camera was a 1DIII.
Not bad for hand held, I think especially considering the very shallow dof and sometimes unpredictable subject movement.

...image No.1), however, what strikes me is that such as they are, to my eye the images carry a "fingerprint" unique to the 200 f/2 IS (possibly 200 f/1.8 as well).
