p.1 #1 · what size for slideshow on HD tv

While I searched the archive I can't seem find the answer. I am looking to do slide shows with Pro Show Gold/Producer and show them on a newer model 42" HD tv 720 resolution and was looking for the best size to make the photos (and any other tips you might like to share). Thanks!

I am no expert but..
Why not make it the same resolution as the TV its intended to be viewed on?
A 720 HD tv is 720 pixels high by 1280 pixels wide. The 1080 format is 1080 high by 1920 wide.

Should the native resolution of the TV be close to the actual pixel size of the image so it displays the same?

Export them to 1920x1080, the TV should down res them if on a lower end HD TV.

True, but my tests have shown that native resolution does make a visible difference in the end product. They both look great and I doubt 95% of the viewers could tell a difference, but anytime you can bypass another scaler in the chain, the better off you'll be.

I've made separate blu-rays from the same SlideShow Pro project file... one at 720P, then another at 1080P. The 720P BD does look better on a 720P projector than the 1080P BD. Of course, 1080P does look better on my 1080P projector.

I use Slideshow Pro to make HD Blu-Ray slideshows... (OBTW, I've tried several slideshow makers... Window Movie Maker, Microsoft PhotoStory, Adobe Elements, SSMM, etc... SlideShow Pro is by far the best... smoothest transitions, smooth motion, intuitive interface, nice title and caption options, great audio sync, and stable). I've also created a workaround to where the 1080P slideshows can be burned to regular DVD+R discs... no blu-ray burner required. And the AVCHD discs autoplay when you insert them into a BD player or PlayStation3.

720P is also useful for vimeo uploads... again, avoiding another resize manipulation. Plus, the upload file is huge even at only 720P... no need to upload the larger 1080P file if it's only going to get downscaled by vimeo anyways.

Buy if you're only going to make one version, then make 1080P (1920x1080).

Make two and put it on the DVD menu. Most middle range TV's these days are 1080p, it's all marketing and 1080p sells just like 15MP point & shoot cameras. :-)

As for Vimeo et'll I rather make a seperate file optimized for their system.

I skip all menus and just use autoplay as soon as the blu-ray is inserted. Saves authoring, plus it's much easier for the end user instead of trying to navigate the controller. Maybe it's not so bad now that set-top blu-ray players are ore common, but a couple of years ago when PS3 was the most common blu-ray player, it was awkward to navigate BD menus with the gaming controller.

Most TV's these days?
Is this for TVs in use today, or TVs being sold today?
If middle-range is 1080P, what's high-end?

It'd also be interesting to see market analysis if newlyweds are more likely to have a 1080P display device and a blu-ray player (due to dual income, no kids, high-tech gadget early adopters) vs general public.

My guess is that wedding customers with 1080P slideshow viewing capability (1080P display device and a blu-ray player)... the percentage is probably single digits. But that would/should roughly double each year... maybe only 5% now, but 10% next year, 20% in 2011, 40% in 2012, 80% by 2013?

So standard-def DVDs are still the 95% norm, but if you're doing a demo with your own display equipment or marketing toward a high-end customer, 1080P is definitely the right choice.

Yep. Here are the settings I use for vimeo: 24fps 4k 128k high mpg
