Quick question, I'm looking at geotagging my photos but the viewing aspect has me confused. While I understand that you can load the pictures into Google Earth or Flickr and view them on a map, this (from my understanding) requires an internet connection.

Is there software (compatible with Apple) that will permit for the viewing of geotagged photos on a map (similar to Google Earth, or even just a straight map) that does not require an internet connection to view? I was thinking a program that I would demonstrate the routes taken from the GPS (once added in), with the option of viewing where photos in my library were taken along said routes.

hrmm, most of the apps mentioned require an internet connection mainly for the maps. If there is something out there that has that kind of functionality, it might be something like a MS maps/streets software and might use up to a few gig for the maps.

I wouldn't mind giving up a few (or many) GB's of space to have the feature. It just seems very strange that you can geotag your photos, but if you don't have an internet connection, or are unwilling to post them to a public site, your out of luck.

Hi, the problem is that you need to find map data to store on your computer.

You could do stuff like this with a geo information system (GIS) like TNTmips, Global mapper, ... but this shooting with canons on sparrows.

The only offline solution I know right now is Digikam Map Search Tool using the "open source Google-Earth" Marble. This is all part of the KDE4 projekt and for Linux. There is a alpha status port to Windows. I do not know about Mac.

As a Mac user I would have a look at Geofinder from CDFinder. Not offline but a cool spatial picture search for your harddrives ...
