Greetings to all of you alternative types. A question: If you wanted a macro lens in the 180mm range and didn't care about infinity (or auto) focusing what would you get? I'm a Canon user and just don't see the point of the Canon 180 pricing when I would only use it for macro work. Thanks, John
Thanks Mawz, I'm assuming you mean the Pentax to be 35mm rather than med format. And what type of adapter would I want/need? I'll keep my eyes open on the B&S.

Yes, I'm referring to the K mount A* 200 f4 Macro in the case of the Pentax.
For Pentax you'll need a K to EOS adaptor and if you're using a Canon body that isn't EF-S you'll also need to remove the stop-down lever and cut off the lever guard in order to prevent mirror interference.
The Nikon needs no modifications, just a good F-EOS adaptor.
Sigma 150/2.8 APO macro is excellent for the money, and goes to 1:1. Also, consider the older Sigma 180/2.8 APO if 1:2 is good enough. They are not too hard to find in Nikon AF mount. The Canon mount ones will not stop down on the newer bodies. If you are lucky you might even find one in Nikon MF mount. I have one and it is superb.
Another vote for the Sigma 150. Sharp as heck even wide open, great colour. add a tube you have yourself over 1:1 and the longer focal length you desire.
Ditto the Sigma 150 Macro. Different type of lens almost to the point of being exotic. Full time manual and HSM to boot. Is just as effective as a portrait lens as it is a macro. Excellent tripod collar included and fine lens hood. Colors reproduce rich and saturated. No CA at all. If you hold one in your hand your a goner. Stellar IQ..Bruce
Actually... I would suggest the lens you are walking away from - the Canon 180mm f3.5 L is simply superb. I would choose it over just about alternative. Yes it is bigger, has slow AF, is expensive, etc. etc. But the results are very good.
