it might be helpful if or when you ever decide to sell the camera. an "i called Canon and they said the camera did not need the fix or it did and i sent it in" can only help sell the camera.

my 1d3 works well for me. i use center focus 95% of the time so didn't have focusing issues. however, i sent it in and just received it back today. why not?

i sent mine in from minneapolis with the canon ups label last wednesday morning (march 4) and received it today, friday (march 13).

i did receive an e-mail yesterday saying it was shipped thursday fedex overnight. it was a helpful heads up.

Well I've sent mine out this past Monday and it's now completed, I should be getting it back next week…I’m guessing Tuesday, Wednesday

Yes it's possible, and that helps to make these anonymous polls not very useful. It does seem strange though, based on all those that have reported good results (on various sites), that this many people on this one site would have such bad results.

The ones that complain the most about this camera have not been shy about letting everyone know their feelings, so I'm sure they will post details on how their camera is performing worse.

No vote from me because:

a. haven't sent it in yet (so that's an obvious one)
b. am a late adaptor (with only a couple of weeks experience, so I won't blabber...)
c. compared to my previous cameras the 1D3 is a huge step forward in AF-performance as is...

Sending it in anyway to do some checks and general calibrating (needs a generous amount of MA across the board, but it does work). I do not notice much performance difference between the AF-points though and I am generally impressed by the system.

It is the tendency of trolls to be negative, as it is more "fun" to stir up emotions.

So it is far more likely to look for trolls in the negative than positive side of a debate, unless the topic is negative in itself.

BTW, it is clear that many opinion on this forum (and others) is not based on ownership and or experience (parroting web sites, tests and forum rehash is very common). Actual ownership and long time experience generally generates far more subtle information than the usual pissing contest.

Well if nothing else, it's a free cleaning. On mine, they replaced a few gaskets, etc. After a year of pretty heavy use it was reassuring to have it gone over, for free.

Hmmm...... I wonder if some people are thinking this latest service addresses the original Servo trouble. Which is tracking even with the center AF point on a subject moving towards you quickly in bright sunlight.

I'm noticing replies in other threads and forums about this latest service, people saying it looks like Canon has now sorted out all the trouble, and it's time to go ahead and buy one.

People are posting examples at f5.6 exclaiming great results now. The Servo trouble that became so famous wasn't even noticeable at f5.6 in the first place. The trouble was noticeable at 2.8 thru f4, mostly on longer telephoto lenses.

Confusion abounds, apparently.

The problem was always there even at f5.6 and smaller apertures. It was just masked by a larger DOF. I still had problems with 400mm and f7.1. I am just hoping that they have found a fix, and are referring to it as the only the outer points for political reasons.

bought mine used, had the fix but could focus to save its life, I sent it to Canon and when it returned was like night and day, now instead of a 5% in focus moving target at f2.8, its more like high 80% if not 95%...dont know exactly what they did, maybe just tuned it up, who knows, they didnt say, I didnt ask, it wasnt under warranty, but they said it was a warranty repair on the paperwork.....................bottom line, if you think you Mark III has a focus issue, it probably does, send it to Canon and let them work some magic

i do believe there are some people who enjoy causing problems and seeing controversies linger on so these polls can be at best problematic....the editorial comments I have read thus far from people who own and have tested the camera seem to be positive for the most part...too bad there isnt a way to only poll people we know own the camera...

I had a major pronlem with my 1DsM3 with the mirror not fully positioning when shooting vertically(bottom of the frame was blacked out). I contacted Canon, got a ticket, and drove to Jamesburg NJ to get it fixed. The counter was very helpfull and verified that the camera was still under warranty. I then proceded to data dump on the service rep on how unhappy I was with the the 1DsM3 and that for all critical shots I relied on my 1DM2, a truly battle tested and reliable camera! The service rep apploigized for the problems and said that they would fix my problems. From my experienc my 1DM2 would focus significantly faster and better than the 1DsM3 and that the 1DM2 (keeper shots) were far and away better than the 1DsM3.

The counter rep stated that it woulld take 5 to 10 business days to make the repairs. My response was polite but to the point! I spent 8K on a 1D series camera and 5 to 10 business days did not work for me and that this was not a point and shoot camera or a Rebel, it was a 1D series camera!

Bottom line, took the 1DsM3 to Jamesburgh, NJ on Monday afternoon - All repairs and calibrations completed Wednesday evening, picked up the camera Thursday morming. I tested the camera outside with my 24-70 f-2.8L and what a difference. Focus was dead on. I took a shot of a parking sign and a high contrast shaddow under a tree and the lens popped right into focus. When I got home I set up my Profoto lights and took some test shots of my kids in my studio. WOW ! What a difference. When I zoomed in on a picture of my daughers eyes (photoshop) I could see the difference between the 60" (white) and 43" (silver) umbrellas in the reflections from her eyes.

All in all I was very impressed with the service that the Jamesburgh facility provided in repairing the 1DsM3. The camera performs noticably better than when I first got it. Time will tell if the 1DsM3 will replace my battle proven 1DM2 as the body of choice for critical shots, but it definatly looks promising.....
