I am considering buy this tablet for photo retouching and such. I was wondering if anyone had
this tablet and like/dislike it for what reasons? Also, I see there is a wireless version, does anyone know if there is a lag time with the wireless. I do a lot of photoshop work, clipping paths and Illustrator work and I also have tendonitis of my elbow which aches when I use the mouse a lot, so I was hoping this would be a good alternative for me. I see with the Intuos3 there is a thing called pen tilt which the Bamboo does not have and I am wondering exactly what this is - I have been to the Intuos site but cannot find much info on what this exactly is, any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have the bamboo 4x6 size and I really like it. Masking is so much easier now than it was with the mouse. The best part I think is the pressure sensitivity, where I would always have to change it when using the mouse. Now I just press the pen harder, and make natural looking masks for dark/light transitions much more easily. Well worth it. Don't have any info for ya about the Intuos, sorry.
shutterlove, "pen tilting" is the boards ability to sense the angle of the pen your holding. Just like you would tilt a marker pen to get a broader/wider line. It pretty much senses how you hold the pen more in a 3D_ish way, taking all axises into consideration. Pretty nifty.
I tried the Bamboo once and actually thought this was some kinda cheap lookalike version of wacom until i checked the name. Mind you you, ive been using my Intous 2 A4 since it was released so i guess i´m spoiled. The main thing that ticked me off comparing the two was that the Bamboo surface appeared very coarse. On the Intous 2 the tip feels super silky smooth aginst the board while the Bamboo had a rough friction to it. Not by a little either.
Maybe the Bamboo i tried was out of a bad batch. Anyone else tried both?
I have the 4x6 and dont really like to use it that much. Seems that if you're between 1/4 and 1/8 of an inch away it senses the pen. Wish it would only react if its touching the tablet.
Well, I went out last night and bought the Bamboo Fun. So far, I love it!
I like the fact I do not have to actually touch the pad, just hover over it. It matches up
perfect corner to corner on my 22" monitor. One touch to the pad is one click and so on.
I am very pleased so far, I really did not want to spend more on the Intuos, as I would rather
spend it on more photography equipment. I think this tablet will do the job nicely. I can see
upgrading if I get into more drawing and such, but for now all I can say is .....

Now that you've had it for a while. What are your thoughts on it?
ive had the Large size bamboo for about a year. I like it alot. Cant say i have any complaints. I use it a few times a week, so not a ton, but its taken soem getting used to, but overall well worth it.
Well, I am having a hard time with the pen. Not as responsive as I would like, or it could
be that I am not using it correctly. When I try to use a brush in photoshop, say a large
soft brush, I get a hard line in the center, maybe I am using too much pressure?
Other than that, I am pleased.

That seems strange. The Bamboo has fewer levels of gradation than the Intuous--512 rather than 1024--but with too much pressure that should result in merely a maximum-width brush, not a hard line in the center (if I understand you correctly).
Or...are you talking about a hard line "in the center" of the full cursor circle? That would happen if you have PS cursor preferences set to show maximum width, which really shows more than maximum brush size, combined with too much pressure. You should have seen the same thing, though, with the mouse, which is always like putting full pressure on the Bamboo pen.
If you really need very delicate brush width control reactive to pressure, you would want to go up to Intuous. But that's not normally necessary for photo editing.

So you're getting a stroke with the pen that is different from (and less usable than) what you got with the mouse?
You should be able to get the brush style you like with Bamboo or Intuos, or another brand. I've even traveled with a little Graphire and did well enough with that.

Yup, that is it, I find it very strange. I use the brush alot in my touch ups. I use a big wide,
soft brush, but when I use the pen, which is why I bought the dang thing, I get a hard line
in the center of my soft brush - very perplexing! I have stopped using it, which defeats
the purpose of why I bought the dang thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have tried on numerous times with the same results.
I've had a Bamboo Medium for 6 months -- works great once you get used to it. I've used an Intuos at work, and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra dough.
