I needed some extra funding so I sold off my DSLR gear over the past month or two. Not wanting to be totally without a camera, I decided to pick up a decent point and shoot until the crisis alleviates. After asking here, and looking at all the recent releases I decided to go with the Panasonic LX3, wanting the wide angle and F 2.0 lens. I still may pick up a G10 to test drive but I think I'm as happy as I'll likely get with a point and shoot in my hands instead of 40D or the like. It's going to take a lot of adjustment and compromise but I think with some time put into I might be able to pull some decent shots out of it.

I got it in last night and took it out on my walk this morning. Since it's the dead of winter there is no color, so I went with black and white. I need to practice my eye with B&W anyway. Anyway, here are some results. I'll probably post this in the alternative gear thread in case anyone else has been curious about the LX3 lately.

I tried to tell a little bit of a story with these, not sure it translated well though.

These are proof that the latest and greatest camera isn't a requirement for fine photos. Nice work on the photos and conversions too. Thanks for sharing.

Further proof of what is attainable with some knowledge and skills. These are great. If you didn't tell us, nobody would even know you hadn't used a DSLR.
I love the subject matter, too. I imagine most folks in the b/w forum get an elevated heart rate at the opportunity to shoot old churches, barns, and the like.

A good choice of digicam and the pictures 'aint shabby either, if you hadn't of told me, I wouldn't of known difference. I enjoyed your walk too

If you want a pocket DSLR, checkout the Sigma DP1 it's the business at 390 euros, the sensors is about 10 times that of the G9/G10.

I managed to fix up G9 given to me which had it's zoom lens completely smashed from a G7 which had its electronics fried - took about 5 hours to do. But I have a completely working G9 for nothing except my time

The lx3 does very well. I am ordering one this week as my last PS when swimming on a wade fishing trip at the first of the year. It is more camera than most anyone needs. Best wishes.
