Hi...
I just picked up Visible Dusts V-Swabs, and "Sensor Clean" Fluid... I have heard people say that certain fluids can harm the sensor... even though they are meant for sensor cleaning... i just want to check to make absolutely sure that "Sensor Clean" will not harm the sensor on my D700...
any one experience problems with this particular product.... and... as I have never cleaned my sensor before... does anyone have any tips for a first timer?
What you're after is a solution that is compatible with the Indium Tin Oxide coating used on the low pass filter that covers the sensor. The problem is with the Indium. I believe Visible Dust's Sensor Clean is okay, but you should double check it. I know for sure that a) the Eclipse E2 solution is okay, and b) the original Eclipse solution is NOT okay.
As for tips on sensor cleaning... I use the orange swaps from Visible Dust with good results. The green swabs presented major problems for me, but I haven't tried the redesigned green swabs that were made specifically for the Nikon D3. The problem with the green swabs: the material shreds very easily and you wind up with lots (and lots) of white particles (ie "dust") on your sensor.
Other suggestions:
1) use the VD Artic Butterfly
2) use the VD 7X magnifying loupe
3) use a VERY light touch with the swab
4) be patient. You made need several passes, and several swabs, before it's clean.
One other tip... Do a search here and at dpreview. There are lots of posts on this topic.

Don't know about the D700 but I use Visible Dust Sensor Clean and Smear Away on both my D70s and D300 without issue.
I would recommend trying to blow the dust off first if you have never cleaned your sensor before. This is really easy and you don't have to touch the sensor. I would only recommend touching the sensor if you find something that can't be blown off (never happened to me, cross-my-fingers).
