p.1 #1 · Jabiru (Black Necked Stork) + more (6)

Ok so here's a few more.

The Jabiru or Black Necked Stork (never has a name been so misleading but to be fair when backlit or distant they do look like they have black necks).
Local croc farm - the birds are semi tame as the farm does feed them fish but you will see in my pic it's caught a little lizard so I'm saying this one wild !!
Amazing dexterity to catch something so small, I'm surprised it can even see the end of it's beak !
Note the translucent shield over the eye ?

5. Busted ! Bush Stone Curlew taking a break, "sitting" on his "backward" knees. The Jabiru does this as well and it doesn't half look wierd !

6. Plumed Whistling Duck

Andy, your processing and color is always a treat to see, these are no exception! Black/blue neck is just wild, two excellent shots of it. I won't ask if you baited the croc Curlew on a break is great, what an expression on this one Andy. The whistling duck would be my favorite here, exquisite detail on the duck and I like what you did to the BG on this shot...........very nice sir!

Thanks Lil. The Stone Curlews are soooo skittish I swear they would run away from their own shadow. To get so close to one, esp. while he was resting was pretty cool.

Thanks mate ! easier to do the portrait thing as it was very bright sunshine and the white of the body with the dark of the neck was proving a nightmare (i.e. impossible) exposure wise !

Cheers Brenton. It says something about their eyesight doesn't it that it could catch and pick a lizard up off a tree trunk with that beak ?

There is a croc like that in the local Botanical Gerdens lake at the moment !

No sound compares to the hollow noise of croc jaws snapping shut bone chilling ! especially when you remember that they are in most of the rivers here and sometimes the sea too !
