p.1 #1 · Winter At My House

Okay, so y'all have heard me griping about the snow. 67 inches in 17 days, and more predicted.
My wife has been on me to get a record of it, but nothing too interesting to photograph in the yard.
So, I put together this little cutsie thing to look back on.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
Does size really matter? I wish these were a bit larger (I know, you already warned me it was going to be casual).
I would have expected a shot of you out in the white stuff making snow angels.
Or a really buxom snow-girl.
On a more serious note, you seem to have been really hammered by the snow. Down in western Oregon's Willamette Valley our considerable snow was followed by warm rain, melting, and flooding. Plus an assortment of landslides, etc.

Wow, that sure is a bunch of snow! 67 inches, thats the same height as me roughly! What on earth do you do when it snows so much, still go to work etc.?

That's A LOT of snow. I hope you have a snow blower, Tim, I finally bought one myself after being so fed up with winter.

Oh, Charlie, size only matters when you haven't got it! Haha.
There was a time when I would have been making snow angels while wearing a bathing suit. Ah...college days... I married the buxom snow-bunny though!
We're hoping for a slow melt here. Floods could be pretty overwhelming otherwise. Lots of business roofs caving in, as they are flat. I finally had to shovel the perimeter of my home roof to prevent any ice dams and water damage. 3-7 more inches predicted tonight, but temps in the upper 30's by Wednesday.

We were pretty shut down as a whole on the first day of snowfall. Neither my wife nor I could make our drives to work. For the first time ever, the mayor called a "code red," dictating round-the-clock plowing. Eventually she plead to the state for help. Bus routes and the freeway got priority plowing, so we could go about our businsess after that. Still, it's been a pain. Lots of businesses have had their roofs cave in, as they're flat roofs. I shoveled the perimeter of my home roof to prevent ice/water damage. Lots of folks making money shoveling roofs now, too. My brother-in-law is getting $500 a pop.

Snow blower is a priority for a next purchase! I've always enjoyed shoveling in the past. It's good exercise, and it gets me outside. However, after this year and last year (both record setters), I'm fed up! Also, my son is moving out this spring, so there goes my extra help! I'm six-foot one, and I'm throwing snow over my head. Ugh..I'm tired!

how do you get your fingers to operate. I was shooting at 33 degrees and after 10 minutes my fingers quit working!
I have mitten-gloves but forgot to put them on, and they don't help that much. any Hot tips to help for my next
cold (all relative) shoot?
regards and the days are getting longer!! tom

Snow does give a place a new look. It would be nice if all one had to do was sit back and enjoy how it looks, but I know from experience you can only enjoy it so long before you have to move it out of the way.

Hi Tim

if I may comment the pictures only (snow for me is "normal business" in winter )

I think there is quite some vignetting on the first 2 frames, and not in the last one.
I find this vignetting a bit too obvious.

So either you make it consistent over the 3 pictures, or you may wish to reduce it in the first 2 shots.

my 2 cents. Else, nice set! Good for memories

Hey, Tom -
No words of wisdom here. I don't mind the cold. It's the snow I can live without. I'm "that weird guy" who wears shorts year 'round, so I'm afraid I have no advice on keeping the fingers warm. A lot of the UPS drivers around here wear the half-finger gloves. That might be an option!

So true! If only we could get it to fall everywhere but the streets on which we drive!

Thanks, Alain! Good crit. I just got my second body (5D) to compliment my 30D. Vignette issues are new to me with this full-framer. These were taken with the 35L. Going to have to start looking for this vignette thing now. It's funny how I can see it when I view other's shots, but I totally missed it when it's quite obvious on my own!

Nice, I was thinking about doing a series in honor of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince called "A Nightmare On My Street" might be something you'd like

Hey, man, some things NEVER go out of style, do they?!
By the way, I have the long version of "Fresh Prince Theme" on my MP3 if you want to copy it...(!)
