NO LONGER FOR SALE!!! Decided to keep it - not giving this bad boy "away" for the offers received...it's too good for that. Thanks for looking.
Folks, this one is mint - not a mark on it, not even on the underside of the tripod collar/foot.
Glass is mint - no dust, no scratches. Body AND hood, likewise. Lens code - "UT". Comes with hard carry case (sorry, no key), lens hood, both lens caps and manual.
Reason for selling - bought on a whim a few months ago and never use it. I would like to pay the cc bill that I used to buy it. I am taking a bit of a beating on the price here (based on what I bought it for) but it is priced to sell now. I realize it sells new for $3700 but this is practically indisdinguishable from new.
Asking $3250.00 and will include ground shipping and insurance. PayPal is preferred but will also accept money order or banker's check.
I reside in Tampa, FL and a non-smoker.
PM's *ONLY* if interested. *Please*, no lowball offers, otherwise I will keep it. NO TRADES!! I will post pics tomorrow if it does not sell before then. I am a long standing member here with many sales/purchases. I reserve the right to refuse sale.
Attaboy, Carl, good decision.
That was already a low price for a great looking lens.
Let the bargoon hunters move over to ebay. Lottsa sweet deals there.
You had this thing priced at $3,250 and were still getting low-ball offers? Unbelievable.
It's one thing to be in a tough economy, but it's another matter entirely to have to deal with clueless people who want something for nothing. Wonder if those who low-balled are thinking they'll get a better deal over here?

Good move on keeping that fine lens, CG.
I agree it is excellent price for this lens, people who is asking less and cheap don't respect FM community and should not belong here. Go on Ebay and get scammed there for free!!!
Thanks for clearing my good name Carl ... I appreciate it... I got your PM and I will standby the ready...
Take care... Alex

Yes, Alex was NOT one of them - Alex offered to pay my asking price after me taking it off the table. I'm going to think on it a day or two.
First Carl, I have no issues with you withdrawing this lens. It is a great lens and I appreciate all of the features of the 300 2.8. My next rant has nothing to do with you or this lens.
As a long time member of FM, I have seen many comings and goings on this forum. Recently there has been a rash of posts about pricing and what people find acceptable. Last I checked this is a free country and thus is founded on capitalism and a free market system.
In one post people saw fit to comment on early release re-sale of 5DII’s marked above MSRP. Some people thought this was price gouging or plain unethical.
In another post, there was a seller of CF card cases for $10. Some thought this was ridiculous and said the OP should just give them away.
In this thread, the OP used the term “asking” when it came to the price tag. This left room for negotiation. For some unknown reason, people saw it fit to comment on what potential buyers were willing to offer. Where did this become your job on FM to rationalize market pricing for an item? The value of a product or service is what a buyer is willing to pay. Like it or not.
Sorry for the rant, but this has become ridiculous.
I can't believe getting lowballs at $3250. I considered selling mine, but there's no way I'd sell it for that either. I'd rather hang on for a year and see if the market comes back by then. When I bought mine, you were lucky to find one here for $3500 after shipping and fees. Good luck either way and enjoy using it if you keep it.
It has been my experience that you simply can't give a great deal to potential buyers. Regardless of your initial price, they will (almost) always ask for a lower price, even if the initial price is already a great deal. This isn't limited to the photographic community; it's an aspect of the American culture (at least here in the Pacific Northwest, and I suspect elsewhere).

Good for you Carl. Congratulations on your outstanding buy sell reputation. Indeed your buyers have nothing to worry about. Your reputation is sterling. I am not commenting on the buy/sell reputation of the guy who stepped all over your rights.
Your choice.. WITHDRAW! Your decision! FREE COUNTRY.
Perhaps Dan Cross should post in all of the posts he quotes and take take a re-read of your respectful withdraw.
For the life of me I don't have a clue what this dude has to do with your withdrawal. It appears he is upset with everybody but you! Last time Dan Cross checked (QUOTE) this was a free country and you just exercised your rights. He ain't happy it appears.

I just don't get these negative post. Carl you did nothing wrong!
Sorry, I was not clear that I was commenting on others responses, like the ones below:

I am amazed at the controversy this B/S board creates. Price is a mutual thing that a seller and buyer agree on.

But before making this concession Dan Cross wrote about Carl 's decision to withdraw:

Dan I seldom comment on stuff that has nothing to do with me!
Your are absolutely right you are not very clear on anything! And rude to this respected seller as much as the newbies who low balled him and his right to sell at his price without your pious remarks. The newbie rights you are admonishing that you defended all the while you previously posted and now you are now praising his excellent pricing!.
Do me a favor and read your long time member comments and tell me you are for this community!
