I am looking for 2 harddrive for firewire drobo. i was planning to buy the seagate 1.5tb, but, after found out that they have harddrive freeze issue. it means i have to look for something else.
i am looking for 1tb harddrives, fast and reliable. and recommendation?
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 or even 7200.11 works fine, I have about twenty running at office without any problems.
I was 100% maxtor a few years ago, but since perpendicular writing from seagate, I've gone back to them without problems.
Drobo's ship with WD 1TB drives when you buy the kit. also, the Seagate 1.5TB's with the correct version of firmware are certified to work. older versions won't.
isn't the point of the drobo that you can get the most bang for the buck (well , Gigabyte for the buck actually) hard drive than get a new one when space becomes an issue ? so unless you really need 1.5 TB in one disk , get something smaller and more economical
about a year and a half ago I got a drobo with 4 500gb drives. 500gb drives cost me 99 each at the time. 1TBs were 329 at the time.
I finally started maxing out the space on my Drobo, so I got 2 1TB drives, at 99 each. I'll get 2 more later when they are maybe 85 or 75 bucks each. And I still have some 500gb drives to spare so I put them in external shells.
The idea is get the most affordable setup to get you through about 6mos-1yr. The upgrading of drives is super easy. It's slow, but you have access to your data while it happens, and makes the drobo pretty flexible.
