About as close as you can come to a Darwin Award without winning the damn thing.

Awesome!

I think the accident even removed his lenscap for him too. Kinda looks that way... Killer event sequence!

Thanks!

you said <4. cross legs while taking more pictures>.
I too would have crossed my legs...sheesh he came near to losing his lens. What if it was rented. Do you think he was trying to get the license plate for insurance purposes?

Amateur...

A real pro would have been taking pictures of the whole sequence with a nice smooth panning action... using manual focus - none of that silly auto-focus BS.

The real pro is the cameraman that got the video of the whole thing without even flinching. Notice how steady the camera is even with parts of the car flying past the camera. Now THAT'S impressive.

He should have been clicking like crazy and then jumped out of the way at the last second (yeah right) ....you have to know the look on that drivers face coming right at that thing would have been awesome!!!

One time I was out photographing sledders coming down a very steep hill at about 50 mph and then crashing on the bumps...well I got a little to close and this guy re-directs and all of a sudden is coming right at me...so I am clicking away as he is getting closer then realized he was going to hit me...so at the last second I jumped and he went right under me...I don't know whose eyes got bigger his or mine hahaha.

Very cool video thanks for sharing...he was a cool customer alright!

I don't know, I have seen some crazy videos of rally racing. I think that stuff is common.

I don't think it's funny, I don't think he is a seasoned pro. I think he is a rank amateur unaware of the consequences of his actions. People like this get races cancelled, sanctioning bodies sued and access denied to the real pros. There is no place for irresponsible actions like that on a professional level. You can get the shot without getting killed if you know what you are doing. Has anyone thought about the mental health of a driver after they have struck and killed someone? I know of several careers that have ended due to the guilt suffered by an accident where somebody was killed. That guy should have his credentials revoked permanently.

pappawheely, I don't think the photographer is being irresponsible shooting from behind a stone wall. I think if the amusing part of the video is his lackadaisical reaction to almost being killed NOT his location which clearly provided him with a level of safety in a worst case scenario.

Most pros are smart enough to be in a safe place.

If he showed some concern and shielded himself I would think different. He was almost killed by the door of the car. Turning your back and closing your eyes is a sure sign of an amateur. Plus, He's not shooting.

Yeah, he's actually not a photographer. He's the navigator from the car just ahead of the one you see in the video which also crashed in the same place. He had just finished taking the insurance shots needed when...
