Is there a less alternative to the Larson 42"X72" REFLECTASOL I seen it used and I really liked the results, but $330 for it from Larson is a bit expensive. Does anyone know if there is a less expensive alternative
Larson is the only one that I know of that sets up like that, but there are however a myriad of other "frame and Panel" reflectors of similar sizes available. Calumet used to have a "3-D" reflector that could be setup in a similar way to the larson but they have been discontinued. California Sun bounce makes some that I guess would be the closest in design, but they are costly.
I'm a major fan of Larson Reflectasols, but I admit their prices are steep (however, Reflectasols do last forever). One big advantage Reflectasol has over the Photoflex and other frames is that they open within an eyeblink, practically.
I've been using this one, though, in a special application that I didn't want to adulterate my Larson for. It's been working pretty well. There are a couple of importers of these. One name they're imported under is Aurora (Tallyns and Midwest Photo Exchange sells them under that name).
It's a little more fiddly than a Reflectasol, but still pretty quick and easy to erect. Just put in the top two ribs, hang the fabric from them, then slip in each bottom rib, first into the hub, then into the fabric.
