p.1 #1 · Online backup?

I was curious, does anyone here use Mozy / Carbonite / Etc? If so, do you backup RAWs with the service and does it eat up tons of bandwidth / resources? Is it a pain to restore files if needed? Are there any standout features that you really like about once service over the other? Do you prefer chocolate or vanilla cake?

I like chocolate better, but I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your other questions. I would like to know more about this Mozy thingumybob though Sounds like it could be very handy.

I use Carbonite, and I have tried Mozy before that. It's very easy to use and the software is also good. But if you planning to use it to backup the whole PC or a lot of RAW's just forget it. It's just too slow for that. On a very fast broadband connection you can upload 3-4 GB in 24 hour. So a large hard-drive will take months to backup. Restoring files is very easy and about twice the speed of the uploading (but still rather slow)

I use Carbonite (but I am only talking a total of 100 GB or so at the moment) - just remember it does not back up external hard drives

I prefer vanilla cake, and collages.net for my online backups. When you upload an event to them, you have the option of uploading the high res files which they keep on file. Their service is simply remarkable, as they do all my proofing, printing, and backup in one easy location!

I use mozy (used to use carbonite for PC but they didn't have mac service) -it's very slow. Basically my backup never completes but I have around 400gb being backed up.

I use Mozy. Restores are fairly simple and don't take long, but the backups are another story. I back up everything but the program files and cache folders 3-4 GB in 24 hrs may be a bit optimistic, but it's close. It usually takes me a week of 24/7 computer time to backup an entire wedding. The only reason I tolerate it is because I know if I were to my own off-site backup routine that I wouldn't be very good at it.

I upload all my jpgs to my Zenfolio proof site. They have unlimited storage, so it acts as another backup.

I've got stuff backed up at home in a few different places (everything is on my workstation, then backed up on the server which has raid 0), and the prior year gets copied to my partners house, but if my place burns down, I loose the year.

I can't fathom uploading 10 gig every weekend, and then going through and uploading all the xmp files when I'm done to an off-site place. Yeah, I could do the processed jpg's, but at that point, the disk is in the clients hands, and I don't keep jpgs.

415 gig thus far..

i'm a smugmug user... like the HOFF with Zenfolio.. it's unlimited storage (or if there's a limit I haven't touched it yet) - and that's a backup for me of the final client Jpegs... I don't think they can do NEF's yet.... but I keep Nef's on DVD.

I also really prefer Vanilla cake... and I prefer it dense.. not light and fluffy - I'm a HUGE pound cake fan... so the denser the better! I really judge most weddings by the quality of the cake.. it's in my contract that I get to sample all cakes ! ()

Use carbonite as a 3 rd backup. Easy to restore. Works in the background without any slow down of my statem that I can see.
Would not use it as a only back-up since it is only good for 30 days after you remove it from system and it would take longer than that to download gigs of files.
