p.1 #1 · Lily stamen

Hi,

I bought a lily for my wife and I took the opportunity to take some pictures of it . These are two of them ...

#1

#2

I used a Canon 100mm f2.8 and a Metz 58 AF-1 to lighten the flower from the right.

Thanks,
Misu

Salut !

Not sure what kind of feedback you're after but I like #2 the most, it looks like they are gathering for a chat and the one if the front is whispering behind the other's one back (I have a lot of imagination ). In #1 I don't like the one in the background, it's not immediatly identifiable and looks more like an half-smoked joint (sorry for the comparison).

I like the red tones and ambiance in both picture. In the second there's a red fringe on the right-hand side, not sure you can (or want to) do something about it.

#2 is great. Composition, detail, lighting, tight color range. It would look great in BW as well I bet.

For #1, I like the diagonals, DOF, and composition, but there are two things that don't make it sing like the second image. First, the OOF stamen in the bkgrnd is too dark compared to the rest of the image and thus draws the eye...too much relative contrast. The other item is the hot spot reflecting off of the "subject stamen". Since the exposure is perfect, a circular polarizer would have fixed that for you. Your net exposure would have to go up 1-2 stops, but the reflection would disappear.

For both images, I really like your use of a limited set of colors to re-enforce the texture and arcs in the composition.

Great share.
Jim
