p.1 #4 · Tripod mount for flash + umbrella | |
Before going that route you should be aware that a tripod puts the light too low for most situations. Part of what makes lighting look natural or not is the direction of the light and the shadows it creates. Natural light, and most artificial light, comes from above the head. As a consequence if you put your flash and umbrella on a tripod at eye level or below the shadows go sideways and the pattern of highlight and shadow is less flattering. From the standpoint of logistics its a tripod is also far more cumbersome to transport, set-up and move around than a light stand.
So save yourself a good bit of frustration with logistics and results and buy yourself a real light stand in the 7-8ft. range. You can find them for as little as $20, but if you spend about $60 you will be making a lifetime investment in professional level gear. Here's a good stand for general use with hot shoe flash: LINK
