p.1 #1 · IS or F/stop?

Quick advice question

I ahve been asked to take a few photos for a work bash - nothing fancy, not a paid job etc, but it ia always nice to get good shots.

I have a 40d and amongst others, a 24-105 f4L IS, and a basic, 50mm 1.8

Given the light will be low, will I be better served with the faster prime, or just crank up the ISO and rely on the IS? I can take both, but it is just a night out and I want to travel as light as possible

Any advice appreciated

Adam

Try posting this in the Canon forum for more responses. I'd say take the 50, as IS can't give you light where there is none, and you'll probably want higher shutter speeds to stop people's motion. Plus the 50 is a lot smaller and lighter than the 24-105.

Try to keep ISO down to avoid noise...the 50 f1.8 should be ideal for this shoot.
Happy Holidays and good luck!

Remember, IS is ineffective when dealing with moving people. To freeze them, you need pure wide aperture with a high shutter speed.
