p.1 #1 · 1st time with white background

This is the 1st time I have tried shooting with a white background, my set up is 2x canon 580 flashes and umbrellas and one 580 to to reduce the greyness of the background. One is to the left of camera and one is beside and slightly behind me as fill flash.

I have been reading Chuck Gardners and Steady Hands comments to other posts and the links you have posted Chuck
My thoughts on these are the fill flash maybe a bit strong or even get rid of the flash for the background.

Hi,

These look much better than most first attempts at the "White Room" look.

I say "White Room" because you include the floor.

I would say "White Seamless" but to me...that does not include the floor, just a background.

I do think YOU have done a very good job for using the tools and a figure and a simple single prop.

So..Well done!

Your comments about "fill" and such...I think are really a matter of "taste" and "style" and "preferences."

I like and even "prefer" shadows. (By the way, your photos of Caleb are nice. )

Whatever direction you take from now on...let it be your own.

Steady thanks for the positive comments it is these comments that have spurred me on to trying my hand at portrait and people. Before Caleb ( my grandson) was born I never took photos of people fullstop but I am now getting to grips with the

Not really sure if I am the right guy to ask as I am in a steep learning curve myself,
even though I will try and give you an answer and others my also be able to help out. By saying you are having trouble with the floor I guess you mean it is under exposed or grey if this is so I believe it is more to do with the angle of the lights too much light going straight a head and not enough going down on to the floor. When I took the above images the key light was as high as my ceiling would let me (8ft) and pointing down at about 40 degrees and about 45 degrees to the subject as can be seen it the shadows of the seat.
Hope this is of some help

Chris
