p.1 #1 · My Family

After a couple of years my family finally managed to arrange a time for some new family portraits. New location in the famous Sabino Canyon in Tucson. Light went fast, but it was fun.

Comments and critique are always appreciated!

Really like the last 2 - the subjects just pop out quite nicely from the background. I do think the various clothing colors are a little too varied in the last one, especially the red shirts. Also, I think the shrubbery on the viewer's left on the last one is a bit distracting. Overall, I'm sure your family will love these!

Thanks for the comments everyone, always appreciated.

Lighting was with an AcuteB 600R pack with an Elinchrom Deep Octa (no diffusers attached, just the octa).

I think these are really well done. You coaxed out some great expressions and made good use of the backgrounds with selective aperture changes. The comments that follow are of the 'small nit' variety.
#1 you did cut off some fingers. You did such a nice job of background separation, that only the nit-pickers will notice. STrong image.
#2 A different background in this one, and it needed a different aperture. Nice choice (f5.6, 1st was f3.2)
#3. The grasses behind him are placed well. I doubt that was by chance, so good job. His eye sockets are dark in this one and no catchlights.
#4 Not the brightest smile, but a more serious pose. I'm not fond of the lighting in this one. I see the shadow on our right from the light on the left and the arm (closer to the light source) is brighter than the rest of the subject. The pose seems to make her look larger than reality.
The last shot looks good and has lots of room for cropping to any size they want.
Impressive shoot.
