Danger! All of images to follow are in dreaded IR. I recently returned from a trip to the big island. We stayed on the Kona coast. While the time was relaxing, and the temps about 40 degrees warmer than the PNW, the photo ops were dictated by our hosts. So... no sunrises or sunsets at the exotic locales. I did shoot some color, and hope to get a few interesting shots to share. Meanwhile, if you are not IR fans, the look is HDRish and contrasty. These were shot as a reaction to crappy light. After all, what sane individual would resort to such absurd photo techniques? Comments welcome.

IR is rad. Havent been to the big island yet but way to show me what I'm missing. Love the comp and tones in the first. The blur in the fg bottom right bugs me though. I assume windy. 2 is great with showing the detail in the fg then the grove in the bg. Good work Tim

Glad you and Linda had a great time on Hawaii; and to see that you managed to sneak the IR-converted canon in there. Love the waterfall shot - who'ld think to see so much snow in Hawaii

thanks for the replies guys. The blurry place in the first was indeed the wind Al. Most of my shots there, and all the IR's were hand held. The weather was indeed a welcome trial. I got home and found frost on the ground. The big island is like Death Valley. all the good spots are about 50 miles apart. another time with fellow photogs methinks. Barry I think I found a bit better weather than you had in the UK. Martin is just about over the cold you brought over the pond with you

What a wild and whacky show, Tim! Sorry to hear you had no say in getting prime time shoots (I hate when that happens), but you did well. Certainly is a new look to the green paradise.

I'm not a great fan of infrared. Of the three, I think I like #3 the best. However, #2 has a very "alien landscape" feel to it. Those trees with the above ground roots are just bizarre. The more I look at #2, the greater my appreciation of it.

Well, Tim the IR shots are not all that bad you know? Some work and some just don't seem to work though... That first one of the waterfall just doesn't work for me (but then again what do I know)

Tim, the "whoah" factor is definitely there on this series. My fav is the last portrait shot. Perhaps a tighter crop to the left would even strengthen this superb photo?

Well done, Tim. I've seen a million photos of Akaka Falls and they are all the same because there is only one lookout point. However, I don't ever recall seeing an IR shot of Akaka Falls and yours is excellent.

Where else did you shoot while you were here?
