With the advent of HD video capability in these cameras (and you know every one from here on out is going to have that capability), are we going to turn into a video board with post after post of "hey, check this video out"? Maybe we will need a separate forum for Canon SLR video

God I hope not!
I'm still amazed Canon put video into an SLR. For me (imho) photography and videography are two completely different mediums. That being said, i would think video discussions should be in their own forum altogether.
On the grounds that when recording video the camera is no longer an SLR (since no reflex) then we can kick them wannabe movie makers the hell out
Still not getting the video thing. All these people saying 'very excited to try the video'....well, camcorders have been around for a while now guys, if that's what you're into.....
I still can't believe they've included video in the next 5D. I'm blown away, in fact. I agree with Phast1, photography and videography are two separate arts. I don't really know how to feel about it all. I'm just glad I have my beloved original 5D.
I think maybe there should be a separate forum for video-related chatter too.
Funny that people think videography and photography are so different. They have different conceptual values and a different process but I think that understanding different mediums isn't bad. Printmaking and painting may be different than photography but in the end it all relates. And the fact that its being added to our dslrs is fantastic. I'd rather have more tools than less. You don't have to play with video if you don't want, but it's there when you get curious.
Honestly, most DPs for films are pretty incredible stills shooters...It takes the same ability to make a good composition, light well, and tell stories with multiple frames in both video and stills. And sure camcorders have been out for ages, but none of them have the low light ability and lens selection that a d90 or 5dmarkII have for the price. These whiney wet blanket sort of reactions are pretty funny but a bit unnecessary. Imagine all the negative posts that would have come out if the 5dmarkII didn't have video and the lowly d90 did....
We are going to hear more whinning than was ever thought once inexperienced would be cinemaphotographers try to make movies. The list of complaints will be a mile long. The video is great, if you know what you are doing and have top notch hardware and software, and are willing to spend 12 hours editing a few minutes of video.

I highly doubt it, although there will inevitably be questions about video from both the Canon and Nikon users on the respective forums.
Questions about video do not dominate PnS forums, yet PnS cameras have had video for years...
The video mode on P&S's sucks. The 5D II's 1080p video is a whole other ball game.
No, video and imagery will always be different. Its almost like 2 completely different arts. And lets face it, nobody wants to sit through a 3 hour professional video of a wedding, the would rather pick up the book on the coffee table, skin through it, and be done with it. Or your sons first baseball game, nobody wants to watch the entire thing, you just have your still camera for the highlights of the game.
I could see Fred allowing a DSLR Video forum (and it might be a good idea to head off some potential confrontations), but I can't see it going much farther (links only, no uploads, strict moderation to keep it limited to DSLRs). Honestly, though, I think once the "wow" factor wears off, people will realize the DSLR is the wrong form factor for a video camera, regardless of resolution.
