So, it came time for me to buy my dream lens, the 85 1.2 and I was all ready to go. I put out a WTB, got a couple offers and sent a payment. In all of my experiences, I have usually sent the payment/received payment and then had things shipped or been the one to ship it out. However, this was not the case for me. I sent the payment Nov 18, they flagged it and sent it as an echeck . I could have sent an echeck through my bank and saved the seller some money! On top of that, the payment still hasn't cleared and I still haven't gotten my lens. Ahh! '
Now I'm going out of town sometime this week so I'm probably going to have to spend more money on shipping just to get it here before I leave. I got hosed, or atleast I feel like I did.

It's unfortunate when problems like this occur, but personally I don't think they merit much beyond a shrugging of the shoulders and hope that the remainder of the process will be error free.
I've done several hundred transactions through PayPal and never had a problem. That doesn't mean that I will not have a problem tomorrow or next week. Given the number of transactions placed through PayPal, a failure rate of 0.0001% would be a substantial number of problems. Folks need to realize that and not take it personally.

I have done quite a few transactions myself, but for them to flag my payment and send it to the seller in a different method, one which took 4-5 days to clear is absurd! If there is really some security issue involved, they should give me a call on my "secured number" before letting the transaction go through and then send the payment. Only if the above fails should they send it as an eCheck.
This has caused me to spend extra money on shipping because of the "security" measures they had to take with my payment. It is bogus.
Sorry, but this is the second issue I had with paypal this month. Call it ironic, crazy, whatever you want but it has happened and I still have no lens and the family is going out of town without me.

What was the reason for the flag? Not that I doubted you but I've never heard this problem before. Was there something wrong with the way the seller account or your account setup?

I have no clue? Maybe because it was a larger amount of money? It is crazy. I just bought a 5D around 3 months ago that was more than this and it when through fine. They had no explanation of why it was flagged and how to prevent it from happening in the future.
All I kept getting were responses that seemed as if they were written on a card directly in from of someone that just learned how to speak English. This doesn't exactly help out the situation any.
Good news, I guess, about my lens. It is in Birmingham, where I live, and should be out for delivery shortly. It cost me $20 more to get it here...Can someone tell me how to send invoices to people via google checkout? Do you have to be a merchant? I have sent payments to sellers but haven't sent invoices to buyers

Well, I got my lens yesterday, finally. It didn't come without another surprise. USPS, dropped it off at the wrong house! Someone signed for it and no one knew who it was?! I almost went into panic mode. I had 15mins or so to get in touch with someone at USPS and the number they gave me to contact the department needed for the task wasn't picking up. I had two phones going at once. With 5 mins till 5pm, I called back and explained the situation to someone else and as I was talking/venting the frustration now with her about this mysterious signer of my package I had a knock on my door. A lady had my package! Crazy! The usps lady told me that they probably did that so I could get my package and wouldn't be without it. Ok, that sounds grand in all but consdering you would have to drop it off at the right apt in the first place to work or better yet just drop it off at the clubhouse like all other carriers.
I will definately appreciate this lens now that it is in my hands. I just looked at it for awhile realizing what it took to get here. haha.

They didn't give me reason, that is why I was so upset at the situation. And yes I contacted them, both paypal and usps.
It is all done now. I have my lens. I just feel like all of "us," the customers get the shaft from businesses like that. You would think that they would want to try and help out the situation but all they do is say sorry in the most inappropriate times.

Intereting. Every time I have had to call Paypal they are always very pleasant and extremely helpful. Fortunately, I've only had to call them 2-3 times in the years I've been using them, but they are every bit as responsive and helpful as my local bank.
