Greetings from the sunny West Coast of America, where it's a balmy 69 degress right now

I like this intimate look at an Eagle dinner table. Good detail and exposure and great job picking your way through the branches.

Thanks for the comments, Ken!

After these few days, I'd love temps in the 60s....actually, in the 50s would be great!

Jim -

The shot was made with a 300 f2.8 L IS with a Canon 2x extender on a 40D.... this was my first outing using the 2x and while the "perched" shots were superb, as I would expect, the "in flight" shots were tricky! The AF slows down quite a bit, at least with the 40D. But I know that technique requires a good amount of practice since I've seen some fabulous results from that same combination. I plan to practice a lot more!

Very nice Chris!

What kind of numbers of BE's are out there still? I'm planning on spending the first part of turkey day out there this week.

Nice shot and a nice combo. I'll be down Friday by lunchtime, but I'll be eating some of those Maryland crabs.

Both times I was at Conowingo so far this season, most of the eagles were on the "other" side of the island, fishing and hanging out on the northern channel. But there were still quite a few. There were several in the trees back far above the parking lot. But I still think there were more photographers than eagles!

Chris,

The counts are still very high (150+) and should remain that way into December. Now, as Chris B. pointed out, you don't exactly see a 100 BE's buzzing all over the place as the action comes in spurts. When there's action though, it's pretty crazy!

Should see lot's of photogs this Turkey Day! Weather is expected to be very nice!

The cold New York and New England and Pa. weather for the passed week or so should bring many more birds that are immature very quickly. I would expect you would be seeing more adult birds as the weather closes up the feeding waters of their resident areas north of the dam.
The years I have spent time there I found that after the New Year was the best when the weather was the coldest up north of the dam.
This is a nice photo of about a 4 year old and I bet the next year it will be with white head and tail …maybe a few brown spots. Great place to be

Thanks Robert. I have not been there in about 2 weeks. My 500 keeps looking at me with it's one big eye and saying "when we going out"

....I hear ya Chris. Was there last weekend and plan to spend most of tomorrow morning and the next 4 days there.

Look me up if you get there. I'll be the one with the D700 and 600mm tilting and panning like crazy!

Do you think you'll get to Conowingo soon?
