p.1 #1 · need advice on binoculars

Hey folks. I've been looking to get a pair of binoculars. I want something small, light and affordable. I'll use it when I am out photographing, but I also want to take it with me when I am out cycling. I cover alot of territory when I am out cycling and I always run into alot of birds (but without my camera gear...doh!) so it would be nice if I could get a good look at them. The binocular would have to be small enough to fit into my jersey back pocket.

thanks

You'll get what you pay for, spend "more" than you can afford, you won't regret it. Buy online, the savings are huge over a bricks and mortar store. Minox makes a nice 8x25 for a relatively cheap price.

Swarovski Optic is the best. But they are not cheap.

It has been said and I agree, binoculars are like lens glass the more you pay the better the results 99% of the time. My job requires using binoculars and a spotting scope about every day and I have tried most all of the better glass binoculars and my choice is Zeiss. They have a lifetime transferable warranty and hold their value real well.

I am have a lot more experience with birding than photography, and my one piece of advise would be to look at binculars with a 30mm objective, over the compacts with 25 mm objective. For just a bit more size you get much more functionality, expecially in terms of field of view. 8 power is better than 10 power for the same reason.

I purchased my first binocular this summer to look for hummingbirds. I got a
Nikon 8x40 Action EX for around $120 at amazon and this one has many rave
reviews and I'm really impresed with its bright image ,sharpness and clarity. It looks like it's the best binocular for this price range. It is also waterproof.
Highly recommended.

Thanks for the tip Hide. I'll have to check that one out. The price tag fits my proposed budget.
