Some slightly light hearted springtail shots.
For the detail minded- #1 clearly shows the tasting hairs around the mouth at the bottom of the head (the two hair clumps). These springtails need these as they can't see what they are eating.

Thanks for the comments all - much appreciated - always nice if you can find some humour in a shot

Igor - BG in #3 is a white (dirty) plastic sun chair - I leave these out all year- bugs seem to like them

I would agree. A ventral view would show a fully developed furca (springer).

Beware of similar looking species with stouter antennae and intense pink or blue pigment, sometimes with a smaller eyepatch. They are likely to be Neanuridae.
