Well, Christmas came early this year (in the form of Hannukah) and I am in need of your recommendations for a inexpensive (prefer under $150) P&S digital camera. I am not looking for anything with too many bells and whistles. I would prefer the camera to be small and compact and from Canon if possible (I specifically do not want one from Sony). If you have had a stellar experience with any, please let me know!

Check out the Canon Powershot A590...seems to be a good balance of compromises for $110...
Ditto... Company just picked one up dirt cheap for a shop camera, and after having used it I can't imagine there being a better option for less than $150.
helimat and adam613, do you think the A590 has a small enough form factor to fit into a pocket or a small bag? It's hard to tell from the website. I am trying to find something of equivalent size to an ELPH.

A590 isn't as small as Elph\Ixus series and doesn't fit a pocket so well.
I'd recommend that you get a nice Elph\Ixus with IS. what I also dislike about A590IS is that it uses conventional AA batteries and not a Li-Ion rechargeable.
I got the A590IS for my mother in law, and my wife has an SD600. The A590 is definitely bigger than the SD. It's not a lot bigger in height and width, but it is probably close to double the thickness of the SD series. The A590 will fit easily into a small bag, and while it could fit in a pocket, it would be relatively large and akward in the pocket of any clothes I own short of an oversized jacket. The picture quality of the SD series and A series is similar, but the A series has a little easier access to more advanced controls compared to the SD series . . .
rachp, thanks for the tip on the Lumix. It looks very small, which is a plus for me. Does anyone have any opinions on the Lumix? Specifically any horror stories, as most of these cameras are about the same.
I can't comment on that specific Panasonic model, but I've owned a couple of Lumix point-and-shoots, and was generally satisfied. They're pretty easy to use, and the image quality is ok, but the noise reduction is VERY aggressive...

You can way over think this (and probably already have). It really doesn't make any difference at that price point. They all have tiny sensors and the image quality is about the same (poor). Pick the feature you like and be done with it.
