p.1 #1 · An Hindu Wedding for C & C

I recently shot a 3 day Hindu wedding - here are some shots from the ceremony day.

Thanks Julian

I really like the darkness in these as I think it really sets the mood here. Amazing work and I love your style. Look forward to more of your work.

Beautiful! You captured (in apparently difficult lighting conditions) the essence of the ceremony. Was it as long as previously discussed on this forum?

Too dark for me - eg 10 looks way underexposed - perhaps this is intentional but it looks wrong to me.

I think they're all great, very up close and personal but as if you were invisible. Well done!

They were too close up for me. It's hard to capture the mood of the entire event when all you're seeing are eyes and noses... =).

#12 is one of the only one where I feel any energy.. also, the lighting doesn't really fit the event. (at least for me... the mood was very dreadful... more fitting of a funeral than a wedding.)

They are good portraits...

A nice set but it doesn't capture the essence of a Hindu wedding. The mood and theme of the set are totally at odds with what a Hindu ceremony is actually like.

Way too dark and gloomy to depict an Indian wedding. Indian weddings are so colorful and cheerful. The shots are very artistic, but does not depict the mood IMO.

You have some nice images here...IMO I just think it's too many images of the hands/cloths/decorations and not enough images of people and their interactions...

agree with others that a majority of these are a bit underexposed-close up shots are always telling of a person and isolate interesting elements of a person but variety is good-check out evan's and sboerup's (spencer) recents posts and check out their PJ work-it's important to tell the story of the day, the sights, the smells, the details

I like them but is everyone always so serious looking at these events?

These are great, but I have to agree with most as well. I think most of the images are too dark, and could have been exposed a bit better. I've shot a few Indian Weddings, and they are usually bright and vibrant throughout the day. Shot #2 is my favorite, and I think it works wonderfully. However, the same effect doesn't really work in #3, as the blue in her eyes make the whole image seem a bit odd.

To a degree - you have to remember that during the religious part of any wedding there tends to be some seriousness present.

But there is also a lot of joy, laughter, and dancing too.

I doubt this is a fair representation of the day, or of the OP's work - I'm guessing it's the more 'arty' stuff we are seeing here, but which, as noted, could do with a bit of reconsideration on the PP front.

Hi every body who made a comment.

I put these up as they had a serious moody character - usually we shoot all the up moments - so this makes them kind of unique. Also they are tight because the Indian costumes are so rich in detail and their faces are so pained. This ceremony was at 8pm and they had been preparing since the morning.

I shot 3000 or so images of all sorts of other stuff - pj and formals and a Catholic ceremony as well!

Hi richimage

John Power

Yes it is long - they sat in the same spot for nearly 3 hrs - that is why they are so moody and serious.

Lord Fluff

Yes this one is a bit dark - the exposures are fine - they were shot with a small gelled soft box (sb600 remote) but i painted down the background to remove some distracting element

Sahid Limon

The B&G were of Fijian Hindu Indian background and as a result did not dance or sing.

I did one at the Sydney Hilton, (Hindu 600 guests) and it was a slow and formal - then a one at a local hall (Muslim Indian) which was all fun dancing singing...

Thanks

Julian
