p.1 #1 · Immature Bald Eagle in Flight

Made my (now) weekly trip to the dam today to find great action. All were taken with the D3, 300 2.8, and TC20EII.

Nicely done. Here's one from a few days ago from my first batch with a 50D and a 100-400. I wasn't terribly impressed by the 50D and zoom combination. It was cloudy and we had to resort to high ISO and it was quite noisy even at 800.

Hi Rich,

Very nice captures, were these shots heavely croped and hi iso? Or underexposed?

I like the Eagle itself in #1 and #2, but I'm not a fan of the background.

very nice. Anyone watch the pbs special of the eagles and nests on the upper mississippi? They had cameras mounted so you can see in the nest. awesome show. highly recommended. we have 7 local nests. So cool seeing how they are growing in numbers big time.

Garen, these are about 50% crops. did have to bump up the exposure by a third in PP as I didn't account for the background fast enough. I was tracking the eagle as it flew against clouds, and I just wasn't fast enough to change the exposure when it flew lower. Not my favorite shots, but I still thought I'd share them.

It's interesting to see the transitional plumage as they go from being a juvenile to an adult.

That head turn to camera in #2 is riveting and #4 with the droplets behind demonstrating takeoff effect are ridiculously amazing.

The 1st two are quite excellent in my opinion. Yeah, better backgound wudda been nice but still quite acceptable.

I watched it a couple of nights ago - enjoyed it very much and will likely watch it again when the re-runs hit.
