I went shooting at Upper Newport Backbay this morning since things still seem pretty slow at SJWS. I cycle through here every week but rarely do I shoot here because most of the birds that I come across are too far out to get a good shot of.
7) It's been awhile since I have photographed Ring Billed Gulls. When I first caught the bird photography bug, I started out practicing shooting BIF shots by going to the neighborhood lake and shooting gulls. All I had was a Sigma 70-300mm lens, a Pentax K100D and a bag of stale bread. Good times.
9) While I was shooting the Marbled Godwits, I missed the moment when this Northern Harrier buzzed the island where all the birds were hanging out. By the time I spotted it, the Northern Harrier was way out in the middle of the bay. Pardon the heavy crops.
Super series, Hung! Our favorites are #1, 4, 5, and 6. What time were you there? We were also at the Back Bay around 9:15-10:15 then scooted over to the Muth Interpretive Center for a quick stop.

Ah, we must have just missed each other. I was at Backbay from about 7:30 - 9. How was the Muth Interpretive Center. I have only hiked around there twice now and didn't really see much. Thanks for the comments.
That's the best Whatchamacallit flight shot I've seen to date Hung.
Spectacular detail in all colors including the whites
Whatever you wanna call it > I'd just call it WhatchamaMarvelous
Kewl shotz on the 405 flyby too. Just keep them of the 101 please
For once I agree with Ant, that is a great Whatchamacallit flight shot, Hung. I like BB Newport for those high density flock shot and you can usually blame one of the local raptors for setting them off like that
Great stuff Hung!! As noted the wigeon is fantastic. Rush hour going south has the one bird in the upper left looking at you, too cool. The whole series is splendid, very well done.

1st three shots are just sick Hung man that 20d sure delivers dude!
Thanks Nello. My 20D may be an older generation camera but it still works for me. However, I still get the itch to upgrade and with christmas around the corner, that itch is getting harder to resist!

Thanks Ant. I've made it a habit to check my histograms often which helps to get a good exposure on the shots.

Any sign of the resident herd of skimmers?
Ken
Hey Ken. I was just talking to another birder there about how I haven't seen many Skimmers lately. There were only 2 on the small island close to the main parking lot. They just made a quick stop and then when the Northern Harrier flew by they took off and didn't come back. Now I do see more skimmers at the head of backbay right by Jamboree, however they are usually way out there.

Thanks Tim. For shots like that I just shoot and hope something comes out in focus. .
Well you don't need to be told again but...............that opener shot is stunning!!
I like rush hour going North those are some great gull shots too. I like what you did with the harrier shots to me a facinating bird of great display.
Really some great stuff here today sir, nice!
This is a wonderful series. The Widgen shot is simply beautiful and I also like
The Rush hour traffic going north. This gives you a great sense of movements
of the migratory birds. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Karl. I too am fascinated by the northern harriers. They are elusive, skittish and yet beautiful to watch gliding low over the marshes. I have yet to get a good shot of them. My work continues...
Thanks for the comments.

Thanks for the comments Hide. Hopefully with winter coming (I think) we should see higher numbers of migratory birds and more chances to get some good shots.
