p.1 #1 · Tired of my Treo!

I'm looking for a smartphone that is COMPATIBLE with mac that uses third party programs such as documents to go. I currently have a treo 755p but would like something a little more sophisticated that will allow me to get emails at real time. I do have the program missing sync. Any suggestions?

I use a Blackberry with my Mac - the 8830 Worldphone, as I wanted both CDMA plus the SIM card slot so I could go abroad and just buy prepaid SIMs rather than pay for international roaming. I sync it to Entourage via a third-party utility, The Missing Sync. Has worked fine for me for the last two or three years.

Second on Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Storm is also an option. It drops Nov. 21 :-D

Thanks fellas. Does sprint carry the bold? I'm with Sprint. Don't laugh...

The Treo was by far the worst product I ever had. It took 4 replacements to get one that worked for more than 3 months. Between me and 4 people I know we have had 18 phones replaced by Verizon.
I now have an iPhone and am very happy with it.

That is unfortunate Micky. I've never had a phone replaced by Verizon (except several that were due to be replaced by contract). I'm really excited about the new Storm, we'll see how it competes with iPhone. iPhone is a very capable machine, too bad it's stuck on ATT.

You'll think I'm crazy, but any Windows Mobile phone. If you want something sleek and small, Sprint has the HTC Touch Diamond. If you want something with a physical keyboard, the HTC Touch Pro is $50 more and slightly thicker. Both are great phones (I've been playing with my brother's Touch Pro and I'm getting ready to pick up a Diamond).

Grab a copy of Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Windows Mobile and you're good to go.

Nothing wrong with the Blackberries mentioned, either, if you like them.

I haven't owned a Windows Mobile phone in a couple years, but to my knowledge you aren't going to get push email with one. Even the iPhone isn't doing push email at the moment, as much as they were supposed to add it - isn't it still periodic polling? Blackberry is still the only game in town on that front. And I believe the BB Storm is going to be a Verizon exclusive for a few months after release, dunno about the Bold...think AT&T is getting that one first. Sprint (who I'm with) tends to be slow on the smartphone exclusives.

If they are building on the same architecture as the Treo 600-700 I wouldn't touch it with your ten foot pole. I met one of the head programmer/designers of the Treo. He agreed it was awful and said they spent more $ trying to fix it than any other product they have put out and spent more money in trying to fix it than in creating it.

There are other options. There are ways of hacking and jailbreaking iPhone to work on other providers, but I reluctantly accepted ATT. No big complaints so far.

Um, iPhone works okay with Macs

I have one, fantastic phone. I don't think there is any phone on the market that is quite as well rounded and useful as the iPhone. Sure, as a strictly email phone, the BlackBerry wins HANDS DOWN right now. But everything else, web browsing, 3rd Part Apps, Music (NO phone is like it) Google Maps with GPS... Freaking amazing piece of hardware. Only significant downside: Battery life. Not a big deal for me as I at least always have my laptop which can charge it, as well as a speaker dock at home and work. On the topic of the on-screen keyboard, it is actually a pretty great keyboard. Sure you might not be able to type quite as fast as some others, but in reality the 'buttons' are significantly larger than many other phones with a full QWERTY keyboard.

Word.

iPhone and AT&T service have been quite reliable when traveling. AT&T has the widest range of partnerships with other carriers, so having coverage is pretty much guaranteed. Get one of their add-on plans for overseas use and it's not expensive as long as you don't spend all day on the phone. The only thing missing on the iPhone is ability to highlight and copy/paste text. Otherwise it easily beats the other smart phones.

I also use a BlackBerry device and it is archaic when compared to iPhone. A prime example is viewing document attachments and switching from one application to another.

Blackberry may not be as sexy as some others but it is time-tested, rock solid performance. Had a Treo (Windows mobile) and was by far the worst phone I've ever had. The software was buggy and needed a reset at least every other day. The phone itself is a brick.

I considered the iPhone because I am with AT&T but I have several friends who have the new iPhone 3G and that thing drains batteries like water through a sieve. I currently very satisfied with my Blackberry Pearl and will be looking forward to upgrading to the new Bold.

I have the IPhone and I think the battery drain depends upon if you are using blue tooth. If I do not have the blue tooth on I can get away with 3 days between charges and that is with about 80 emails a day with 3 accounts.

The email option does work fine and it will open attachments now. If you are using a DRobo they now have applications available and one of them will allow access to your DRobo from your IPhone (if that is really something you want to consider).

Does anyone use documents to go? And with what phone?

Thanks in advance.

Just did a search and: http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2008/09/17/documents-to-go-is-coming-to-the-iphone/

They are going to get it to work for the IPhone.

I'm on my 7th treo. I think it's just masochism at this point. They keep on failing, Verizon keeps on giving me new ones. The problem is that I'm trapped with Verizon (well not trapped, but get an automatic 20% discount on my service, and have a 7-line family plan). Doesn't pay for me to switch carriers, no matter what.

I've looked at the BB's, but Verizon requires that any BB user automatically subscribe to their monthly data service, which for several reasons, I simply don't need. Not going to pay an extra $25/month for the privilege of owning a blackberry.

The iPhone is absolutely indispensable as a mobile office. It allows access to PDF's and jpegs, numerous email accounts, gps, text messages, third-part apps, and on and on. It has certainly become the go-to phone in the entertainment sector here in LA. Personally, I haven't had any problems with AT&T. Maybe the new BB will help it regain market share when it comes out. Looks like a pretty cool phone.

Ha! My Treo downloaded 3 years of PDFs. It never allowed me to access or view them and never would tell me where they were but it downloaded them.

Hopefully the new BB will be it's own thing and not a copycat of the iPhone. Apple's done the iPhone let someone else do something better/different.
