Considering making this move as I rarely shoot sports anymore and am shooting more for magazines where file quality is more an issue - especially at higher ISO's. I am aware of the differences in body type, not going for bleeding edge 5Dll either. Just wondering if anyone has made this move and regretted it afterwards?
Haven't made the move, but I use both the mk2 and 5d and will almost always go for the 5d for my magazine work...just bought a 1ds2 so that will change, but the 5d produces nice clean large files and is ideal for this type of work.
I bought a 5D after a couple years of using my 1D Mark II. I was in the same situation as you... While I still have the mark II, I hardly use it since I no longer shoot many sports. My guess is that you would be happy with the 5d...
I went to a 40d with my 1d2 and hardly use the 1d anymore. Of course when it is sports time...well you know. I pondered the 5d until I got my tokina 11-16. That lens alone is enough to keep me in a crop body. ( the 17-55 and sigma 30 1.4 does not hurt either).
I also have both cameras. I use my 5D 90% of the time and really like its IQ comparing with my 1DMK2N. If you do not plan to shoot sport, I'm very sure that you'll like the 5D a lot.
I'm actually the other way around. I found my 5D wasn't cutting it for PJ and sports (obviously) and so I picked up a 1D mkII. I'd say I'm pretty evenly 50/50. 5D for low light/concerts/studio/travel and mkII for sports/PJ/everything else. The biggest thing for me is just feel/usability/focus. No comparison there, mkII takes the cake. Then again, the 5 has some dang tasty IQ and noise.
For me the focus, fps, and handling would make me regret trading it for a 5D for sure. Just get 'em both. Awesome combo.

Totally agree. I have the combo too, and they are the perfect match.
Certainly, if you are in the Canon system, IMO there is no one camera that can do everything, a 1D2 and a 5D was my combo for pro work for a couple of years, all bases covered
