having photographed them in iceland myself the greens are way to bright. the dark foreground in the first needs cropping off.
the comps in the second and third dont really work with the sky show either.

Vern, the yellow cast is because of reflection of the city lights which where behind a small mountain behind me but because of the clouds it somehow managed to spread to my area. Will go further from the city next time.

parsons, regarding the greens... the auroras are unique every time and sometimes the cast more like a dim green light but sometimes they are strong and sometimes change colors as you probably know. So there is no "true" green color for auroras.

#1 looks like the aurora is plugged into the power grid,was that by intention or serendipity. Either way you should sell it to your local power authority for advertising.....mike

I can never get tired of looking at the Northern Lights, and I can only hope that I can go there someday soon..

Greens or no greens, I do think that the foreground composition needs some work - although I've heard that it's really hard to compose in the dark..

Hey Stefan,

Pretty cool stuff. I didn't like the composition in #1 at first because of the power pole, but as I look at it more, it's kind of cool... But I do think you could crop some off the bottom, maybe turn it to a 4:5 format.

I like the almost moon looking like foregrounds in #2 and 3. I prefer the foreground in #3 the best. It's a bit brighter and the brush is better looking. But I do almost like the sky a bit better in #2. But either way, #3 is really cool!

I literally jumped when I saw 2. Great atmosphere... kind of aliens attack kind of vibe. Does look like the colors are kind of falling apart in the clouds though, might want to take a look at toning that down.

Your first image is beautiful and so strong. Perhaps cropping from the bottom would emphasize that subtle diagonal you have and confer to this image even more impact.

I've seen those shades of green in the Aurora before, except I was in Fairbanks, Alaska. I'd go back in a heartbeat to see that lightshow again! Awesome shots!

Does the color vary with latitude? The only Aurora that I have seen was one night in Wyoming and it was pure red over the Tetons.

BenV, is it is really green like that if the aurora is strong enough.

Steve (SHVv), no it doesn't vary with latitude but depends on what gases charge... most common color is this green light and that's oxygen charged with electrons from the sun.
