contemplating upgrading to CS4 but worried about slew of plugins that i use may not work. anyone who has done the upgrade, how did the plugins handle the upgrade, did they continue to work after the upgrade?
i use Nik software (silver, viveza, sharpner, dFine, colorefx)
OnOne (whole suite)
AlienSkin BlowUp
Neat image
Photokit
Go to Nik site, they adress the issue. You need to have Dfine installed. OnOne has a new versions, Neat Image and PK Sharpener works.
Best thing to do with these plugins is to just go to their web site and see if there are any issues or new releases or versions, which is exactly what I did.
If you upgrade, make sure you reinstall your plug-ins to CS4, rather than copying or moving them from the CS3 plugin folder. Also, make sure CS4 is looking in the right place for plugins. For some reason my CS4 defaulted to looking in the CS3 plug-in folder. I had a variety of odd error messages until I figured that out.
I have installed Nik Silver Efex and Imagenomic Noiseware and both work fine. The Nik Selective Tool requires the Dfine 2.0 download mentioned by Gil. Check their FAQ
^ I wondered the same thing, Jeffrey. I asked the question a few weeks ago since I have VelviaVision for CS3 and will probably upgrade to CS4 around Christmas time. I would hope they would, but since you already ordered CS4, I'm sure you will know first hand before me.
Velvia Vision from Fred does not work. He responded to my question about it and said he needs to adapt it for CS4. Another update coming soon, I hope.
NIK and Photomatix stuff is fine.
Isn't the scoop that most of the plugins will work if CS4 is install/used as 32 bit, but 64 bit is an issue until plugins address this capability? Think I read this somewhere.
I can attest that Nik Colour Efex 3.0 and Imagenomic's Noise Ware do not work in CS4 64 bit. Nik assured me that their products would work in 64 bit within two weeks of CS4's launch date and yet they still don't. Now they won't respond to my emails asking when they will work. I am not impressed.

There might also be differences in plugin compatibility with Macs or Windoze.
Correct, the Mac version is still 32bit so all the 32 bit cs3 plugins will work. On windows x64 and using the 64 bit cs4, the plugins will need to be re-written.
