Interesting shot Bernie. I assume it is in a subway (Washington D.C. area?) but if you use a little imiagination it looks like a high tech 2 lane bowling alley.

Yes Craig -- It's in the nation's most photographed subway system in D.C. Glad you like it! I wasn't thinking about bowling then....

Bernie - I have never seen a subway in person so expect this is a very dumb question. BUT - would you mind a tiny bit of explanation for us in the undeveloped aeras? Is this a descent to the actual subway? AND - where are the people? Is it just the time of the day that makes for the isolation? I would expect it to be very difficult to find a time to capture it like this. Fantastic pattern and lighting. I think it is SO excellent - and congratulations on making the finals!

Marjorie, thanks for your kind words! And no problem with the explanation....

This is a shot from a mezzanine prior to making the last descent to the tracks via the escalators. To get to this point, we had to descend on a loooong escalator from street level. Then through the turnstiles with a credit card like piece of paper that we purchased earlier in the day from a vending machine.

There were relatively few people at the time. Plus those that were there would have been directly below me for the most part. I did clone out the upper torso of a lady at the bottom of the right escalator.....

Luckily there were no Federal Marshalls! Lighting was compliments of the Washington D.C. Metro.... This was handheld at about 1/12 second using BSS (Best Shot Selector--love it!)

Thanks for stopping!

I have always found shots like this difficult to show the steepness of the stairway, and this shot is no exception. The geometry is nice, but it does not show the "down" part of the title. Maybe a wide angle, tilted, and contrasting the platform would help. Scott
