Hello digigirl. Thank you!
Ok... here it is:
I start in PS with one of my photos for reference only,
setting it into a blank template (150 dpi) with overage for a gallery wrapped canvas.
Here, I adjust color, contrast, composition and layer blending.
Now, I'm ready to paint.
I open the photo/template in Corel Painter for viewing and color sampling.
Beside it, I open the original blank template which becomes a white "blank canvas" to paint on.
This painting was created using Artist's Oils with only one brush; Wet Oily Brush.
And, using a Wacom tablet with the Stroke nib, of course!
I work very quickly to convey immediate emotion with the brushstrokes...
to express that energy, to paint in the moment.
The first image shows a bold blocking in of basic color and shape with brush opacity at 80%.
The next two show the sculpting and refining strokes; originally on six layers but merged for this example.
Brush opacity is 50% for these layers to allow transparency, glazing and mixing of color.
Layers settings: "Pick Up Underlying Color" and blend "Normal."
When the painting is complete, it goes back into PS for unsharp mask, levels and saturation.
I use this process for every painting, one brush with varying degrees of size and opacity... simple, really.
