p.1 #1 · Is it me or the camera?

My 40D isn't producing too many more keepers than my 20D did... is this normal? After using my 1D and seeing every single shot in focus (if I do my part) I am very tempted by a Mark II.

Is it normal for the 40D in Servo mode, single AF point selected, to have the same keeper rate as the 20D? I am using the 70-200 2.8L.

Thanks!
Zander

sounds like a problem with you imo. I know the 40D has a slightly better AF system, so it should help increase your keeper rate.

I never moved off my 20D until I got my 1D. I'd expect the 40D to have at least as good a keeper rate and as long as I did my part I'd expect it to operate just like the 20D. I would not expect "keeper" rate to differ between the two.

You should do a little better. I have both and find the 40D a bit better in AI Servo but don't expect miracles. I also have the mkII2n and that is a little bit better then the 40D but I don't notice that big a difference. Yes, a 1 series is better then a XXD series but practice will help you get more keepers then buying a new camera.

In fact, it is. You might have also stumbled on a "big secret" of gear arms race..........incremental improvements in cameras/lenses do not result readily in the keeper rate payoff.
Practice and technique improvements do, regardless of the level we happen to be at.

Better gear usually "facilitates" but it seldom "enables".
