Does any of the current inkjet printers match the quality of chromira prints. I know it's an RA4 . Is it worth looking into or stick with inkjets. I already have a roland 42" wide format Roland. Share you opinions.

I installed a Chromira 5x ProLab five months ago and couldn't be happier. It is fast, efficient and built like a tank.

Previously I was using large format Epson and Canon printers and the waste and materials costs were eating up profits.

Chromira prints are beautiful and cost per print is far lower for RA4 materials than inkjet.

My Chromira with compressor and new computers to drive it came in at around 145,000, on a six year 100% financing lease it is 2500 per month.

We print many large jobs for nature and landscape shooters who sell through galleries and the color matching between sizes is perfect.

ZBE, the maker of Chromira has an excellent support team and have been very fast and responsive to whatever small issues we have had. They also have an annual users group meeting at their location just south of Santa Barbara that is very informative and fun.

The only downside is that many people request canvas, water color ar specialty papers that are only available for inkjet. Because of limited lab space we were not able to to keep our inkjet printers so we now have to outlab specialty surfaces, if you can keep your Roland you'll have the best of both worlds.

Call Tim at ZBE and send him some files, have him print them for you and then compare them to your Roland prints.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I hope to see them at photoexpo in New York. Do they break down often? like minilabs.

No, it is built like a tank and the modular design makes it very user serviceable.

We had one extended breakdown, went down late Thursday so by the time we were able to diagnose they problem and get parts in it was running by Tuesday. Tom that heads the service department and his staff are great. They use a remote login system so that they can see exactly what is going on with your printer.

Far easier to fix than our Fuji Frontier 570.

Great. Those minilabs can be scary some times. I will keep my roland for canvas print, which I use it for mostly. Very reliable machine, no repairs for 9 yrs.
