Hi,

I have a $250 budget to buy a good (not 21-Distagon-oh-my-goodness IQ) WA zoom lens for 1D.
Unfortunately for me, I got the Zuiko and fast-MF-glass fever (the alt forum people are witnessing it), so 17-40L is not an option now, but it might be in a few years.
Which one should I buy? Canon or Tamron?

Got an interesting deal, an EX Tamron 19-35 3.5-4.5 from KEH, $115.
Done.

I've never used the Canon, but I enjoy the 17-35 on my 1DMk2.

Do anyone here know anthing about the Tamron 19-35 on 1.3 crop cameras? Will I enjoy it? Is it in the same league of 17-35 and the Tammy 17-50?

It's a stretch to call the 19-35 a WA on a crop body, but it's a decent lens.

If it's the same as the tokina 19-35, I'd say you get what you pay for.

Tamron 17-35 is a good lens for the money.

Even on a 1.3 crop? That would result in a 24.7-45.5 lens. It's WA, not UWA.

My biz partner has the Tamron 17-35, and it is an excellent lens for the money. For cheaper zoom lenses of quality, Canon is usually not the answer.

Having owned the 20-35 for about a year, I can say, that it is not the wisest investment. I would say that the Tamron 17-35 would be a better investment. I did have the 20-35 & 17-40 at the same time. Although, the price points are different, the 17-40 is one heck of a lens for the dollar. I pretty much sold the 20-35, once it was not being used anymore.

Had the Tamo for some time - recently sold it here on FM. Replaced the Tamo w/the 16-35 L Canon. Used on it several 1D (1.3) frames, the Tamo had slightly less contrast and was more prone to flare in highly backlit scenes (lenshood design

)when compared to the 16-35 L. Other than that (really minor gripes), the Tamo is fine - focused crisply and had decent build quality. Great bang for the buck!!!
