I noticed Epson has a new printer, the R2880. Does this replace the R2400? How is it better?
I'm still using a 2200 which I'd like to replace and hope these newer models are as reliable as this printer has been for the last 6 years.
Yes, it is my understanding that the R2880 replaces the R2400. I have not read up on the "improvements" but have heard great things about boths quality. The Biggest complaint I've heard about the R2400 is the ink costs realative to 17in printers from epson. I am extremely pleased with my R1800 I've been using for a little over a year.
Yes, it replaces the R2400. The only real changes are the new Vivid Magenta inks for better gamut, and a new screening algorithm for better prints overall. Beyond that they threw it in a redesigned case.
Coming from a 2200, it's well worth the upgrade. Do keep in mind if you're printing on rolls, Epson hasn't offered roll cutting in a 13" printer since the 2200.
Thank you for the info. I never print using rolls so I won't be missing that. There seems to be some good deals on the 2400 that are still available new. Which to pick? That is the question.
Other than having to swap out the black catridge when switching to matt media, I love this printer. The quality is much better than a couple of the printing houses I've used in the past.
Haven't used the R2880, but own the R2400 and love it. I use a Media Street ink system to cut down on ink costs. It does seem that the photo black with the CIS dries slower than the epson inks. Anyways, my point is that if you are looking to use 3rd party inks (which you have been able to do for quite some time with the 2200), you should go with the 2400, as many companies have systems for them. Thought I would throw that out there for you.
