p.1 #1 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
Occasionally, I notice that people here are sometimes very critical about some pictures OR deliberately motivating others to continue bad habits (by not pointing out the obvious issues in the pictures). I wonder where the majority of the user base falls here, you can stay anonymous.
As for me, I am usually honest...if I see overblown highlights or missed focus...hey, I won't say " awesome pictures". That just gives the wrong impression to the poster and he might not learn something he could have, otherwise.

Honesty, genuineness, and appreciation. They're all valuable.
The photos in the presentation boards tend to be better as a whole than those posted on the gear boards. Speaking of which, what is this thread doing on this board?
p.1 #3 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
It's easier to be honest and critical over an internet forum. As long as the criticism is made politely then I don't see any issues. In real life though (especially when dealing with friends), it's much more difficult to be harsh...
p.1 #5 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
I didn't vote because this is a gear forum for me so I very rarely say anything about the images posted (that and most the images in this forum only rarely have anything that interests me), but on my photo boards etc. that I am sometimes active I am very honest... but if someone obviously doesn't have a clue I just ignore their post and hope they pick up pointers within the comments of better photogs works.

I have been around here for about 5 years and use to post regularly on the N&W forum but I quit about a year ago. I saw too much praise where praise wasn't deserved and when I tried to give constructive criticisms the person would usually be offended or defensive. Because after all he or she had been getting praise from everyone else.
They are some great photographers on the N&W forum as well as many on other forums. I chose to keep my opinions to myself when it comes to someones photographic ability. I will however respond to an example on the Gear Forum that doesn't support an OP's assertation. Most discussions on the Gear forums are quantitative and based in demonstrative examples to promote a premise.

"Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a person’s growth without destroying their roots."--Frank Clark <-- (a politician)
When critiquing someone's work I believe it's important to consider their experience as well as the level of gear that they're using. No need to destroy someone's confidence over one lousy picture. If you see 10 mistakes with the picture, point out 3 mistakes, give out 5 compliments and move on.
Now if they plan on getting paid for their work then you should be as brutal as needed so they don't screw customers over.
p.1 #11 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
I try to always be honest in expressing my opinions, but I don't always express my opinion. Sometimes it's better to "pass", and just say nothing at all.

Two answers - I ignore most - as they have not moved me to comment - but if I do comment I am always honest if passing an opinion and I hope helpful where I make suggestions.
Some posts are so good that I will post very brief compliments even though they are not helpful - simply because the image deserves a response.
I can't post a response to every image I view or my 12,000+ post count would have another 1 in front of it
p.1 #14 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
I'm always honest with my comments. If there's something I don't like about an image I'll mention it along with the reason why I don't like it, though I usually try to be tactful as to avoid offending the poster.
Personally, I'd prefer no comments in my image thread rather than getting fake "it's nice" comments.

I am an amatuer. Far be it from me to critique what is usually very far above my level of work. I am just tryin to take better pics of my kids. If there is a picture posted that I see glaring issues with 99% of the time it has already been pointed out multiple times.

I always tell them what I think, if I dont like it, Im not going to sugar coat it. I will give my advice on what could be done better and tell them to keep their head up and keep trying.
p.1 #20 · Do you guys give sincere opinions about pics ?
My photographic experience is still very limited and as such I'm infrequently in a position to comment on others work. When i do so, i am honest. And i would like the same in return. Hollow praise is worse than harsh criticism because no-one benefits.
