The D700 is a great camera for those who need a full frame, low noise but do not need the other features of the professional D3.
My experience with it is very limited but I was pleasantly surprised by the images shot at 3200 in available light. I happen to be using the 24-70 at the time. The combo is on the heavy side!
We shall be seeing more full frame cameras in the near future.
