p.1 #1 · Wedding at Whitby Castle in NY

On Saturday I was the second shooter at a wedding with photographer Kate Leigh at Whitby Castle in Rye, NY. This was my first wedding since moving to NYC and it was a blast. Critique welcomed and appreciated.

other than you being in the main photographer's way during the dancing shots, it looks great. I like #11 because that's something you probably got while the main photog was shooting the person giving the toast - which will be appreciated by photog and couple.

Love the chimp in #14.

I would like to see his chin up a bit more on both images of #5. That head position puts him in a weaker pose, he'll look stronger more confident with the chin up a bit, like he's looking straight at you with his face.

#6 is a nice shot, might think about hitting her right arm with the liquify a bit to thin her down.

Funny how all us 'togs notice the primary in the shots She likes to chimp and she uses a demb flip-it

Overall these are great 2nd shooter shots, I like the portraits of the B&G best out of this set, with a runner up to the table shot.

Thanks lentenele, Andy and Andrew!

yah, it would have been better if I didn't get in primary photographer in those shots but at the time I was more worried about capturing the moment. However, the videographer was really rude was constantly getting in both mine and the primaries shots. He was literally about 3 feet away from the bride and groom during the first dance during the whole dance . . . made it really hard to get shots without him moving into your shot at the last minute.

Thanks for the advice. I'll think more about the chin up on the next shoot. And for #6 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Cause she's insanely skinny to begin with.

looks like an all around excellent job on lighting. I'm sure the couple will be extremely happy with the results.

Were you shooting primes the whole time? Very sharp, and nice shallow DOF... I love it

Thanks Ryan. Yah, all the shots with the exception of #8 are with primes (8 was shot with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS) . #5 and 6 were with the 85 f/1.2 and the rest were with the 35 f/1.4. For lighting I just used a Canon 580x strobe and bounced it off the white ceiling. Hopefully soon I'll be able to purchase some pocketwizards though so i can start shooting with an off camera flash.

Not kidding about #6, she is really skinny, but the arm looks disproportionately larger to her body. Perspective did this a bit, so did the position of her arm. She'll probably notice her arm first.

Very nice shots. Nice and clean.

Maybe she's not chimping but changing the settings on her camera.

Castle is cool. Some PP to bring out the underexposed area. This is where Capture NX really excels in its control points.
