p.1 #1 · Quarter Moon Over the Bay

I took this shot with a 17-40mm wide angle lens. I then shot the moon with a 70-200mm lens a few minutes later. I merged the photos together to get this result. Thanks for any comments.

I love the effect, and the feel of the image. The colors on the right seem a bit too hot (or even blown out) to me (JPEG effect?).

Nice, though.

Simple and very soothing composition.

How much larger was the moon you used than it was naturally in the wide angle? It works very well like this.

Simplicity at its finest. Grogeous mauve colors with minimalistic compostion. A fine image indeed.

Floris, thanks for the comment. I am guessing that the moon looked about 1/5 to 1/10 of this size in the wide angle shot.

Thanks for the critique. The right side is much brighter because the sun had set on the right and that part of the sky was still glowing. My histogram says it is really not close to being blown out. It does look bright though--thanks again.

Hey Daniel,

This looks great. Good job on merging the moon, and for me I like colors on the horizon, and they look perfect to me.

Simple, mysterious, and beautiful - the three characteristics of a great photo!

Paul

PS; shouldn't there be a reflection of the moon?

Thanks for the additional comments. Paul, in the original wide angle shot there was a small reflection at the bottom of the frame, but I cropped it just above the reflection. The reflection did not look that great so it was not a great loss.
