I don't see ANY reasons why anyone would consider buying a 1D MarkIII camera over 5D MarkII Was it Canon intention to introduce this camera for people to change over from 1D. I mean, 1D III was sort of a failure,with all the photographers complaining about focusing issues that it has. If 5D doesn't have the same issues, it seems to me nobody would be buying 1D series bodies.

I will be the first to say, I love my 1DIII and I am first in line at my shop for a 5d. If I had a 5dII and not a 1dIII, I would be waiting to buy that. You are compairing a incredible study and quality carry camera with the best built more rugid and more incredible tank of a beast (sorry for going over the top) 1D!
There wil always be those professional that require or need a professional body. Weathersealed, rugged, superior AF, FPS, Great IQ, customization features, long shutter life, etc. etc. So even as good as the 5D2 is it's still not 1 series camera.
These two cameras are very different in both build and type of photography they will be used for. The Mark III is an excellent camera that had some issues - but not all cameras had these - I for 1 have never had an issue with mine. It is over a year old and I do a lot of sports photography and have never experienced the AF issues. The build quality of a 1 series is not comparable to a 5d or 5dII for that matter. AF speed and 10 FPS will always keep the Mark III in the hands of sports photogs while the 5DII will definately find it's place as a great portrait camera. Now if the Mark IV rears its head in the spring then I would bet that the threads on the Mark III demise and new Mark IV issues will overrun this forum..........
#1 5D AF isn't bad. 1D AF is much much much better.
I can't tell you how many low-light situations I have shot in where my 5D could not acquire focus, while my 1D3 had no problems at all.
#2 The viewfinder on a 1D is so much better
#3 I'm not saying the 5D isn't rugged, but I'm sure it can't take nearly the beating my 1D3 does. I've knocked into trees and hit the ground with my 1D3 many times, and it's fine.

Ha, well if/when I sell this camera, it would be full disclosed. Besides, you can see all the paint loss on it. It's amazing the beating this camera can take. I'm sure if it was a rebel or something, it'd have broke by now.

Have you shot a 1D3? I've had one since 'blue-dot' I haven't had many problems with AI-Servo. As a matter of fact the 1D3's AI 'misses' about as many shots as my 5D AI. It's always with my 70-200 too. Nothing else. Not sure if it's the lens or not, but the AI servo on my 1D3 is fine most of the time for me.

Mine has the best AI Servo focus of all the cameras that I have used

I am not talking about 5D,but about 5DII. They are quite different. You shouldn't compare those. 5D II is reworked and has a lot of amazing features that 1D3 does not.
Sure maybe 1D3 is good for sport photographers, but all the images I've seen from it so far, led me to believe that 5D II IQ is MUCH better, not to mention more MP and a better screen.
A day to day shooter doesn't go around banging his camera at every pole so ruggedness might not be that big of an issue with many. I for one, never had my cameras in a situation where I had to test its built quality.
5D II will outperforms 1DIII is low light conditions and most likely will be able to focus much better. I had a 1DIII for 4 months before selling it. That camera was a hit and miss. My 5D and 40Ds were not worse in focusing.
The dual slot ability is the only good thing about 1DIII.
To the OP, the 1D3 is in a completely different league than the 5D2. 1.3x 10MP sensor and 10 FPS verses full frame 21MP and 3.9 FPS (not to mention the dramatically different AF systems, metering, build quality, custom functions, weather sealing, etc.). Seriously, WTF? Comparing the 1Ds3 to the 5D2 makes much more sense.

Whoever getting Porche should buy new Mustung just because it is just as fast or same hp?
1D is different pro level body and even super new models of consumer level cameras can't stay near to the pro options in mkIII.
