p.1 #1 · Billboard ... does it work?

I'm opening a new 2000 sq ft studio in November & am looking into a variety of advertising options

planning on sending a direct mail to all my past clients with a coupon or frame discount or something, but was wondering what works for you to reach the masses & bring in new clients?

Our area newspapers ran features about my studio. In small town America, everyone reads the local rag, so the stories were great free advertising.

I wish, but I'm in Portland Oregon, so no small town favors

I will be getting some press, but I want to put my advertising $$ where they'll have the best bang

Local directories (i.e. yellow pages) can go a long way if you put in a good ad.

You should try a Google local business ad, too. I'm on page one for most towns in our area.

My advice would be to network. Seek out opportunities with chambers of commerce or places that would exhibit your work. I think the Yellow Pages are the worst investment you can make. No one seems to use them anymore and their rates I think are exorbitant.

If you are looking for business to business contacts, look up zapdata.com. This site is part of Dun & Bradstreet and you can "license" mailing lists for pennies tailored to exactly who you want to reach. You can develop a list based on your needs and preview it at no cost before you pay for it. A basic list with no phone numbers is usually under $.20 each. Add phone numbers and you have a complete telemarketing list.
