p.1 #1 · NEW 24mm 1.4 mkII

How about a dedicated Canon 24mm 1.4 mkII thread?

It looks like a spicey lens to me...

No coincidence Canon released it together with the 5D mkII. Which IMO is targeted at landscape/commercial shooters.

I wonder if they have updated the AF algorythms of the 24II?

Of course it has a different FL, but I also wonder how it holds up against the new Zeiss 21mm?

No - just added micro adjust -didn't even bother with the 40D AF improvements.

No, I meant the AF algorythms of the 24II... (edited OP)

I´m very happy with this as the 24mm f/1.4 has been high up on my list for some time. It´s just so nice to see that Canon still take fast primes seriously, thank you Canon!

does the lens have AF algorithms? I thought the camera controlled the AF, but the lens AF motor controlled the speed of the AF to a large extent?

The official description of 24-70L stated that the AF algorithms were significantly improved over 28-70L, so I guess the electronics in lens has to do something with focusing as well.

Besides that, I don't think the 24 mkI can be calibrated by the very precise calibration software that Canon uses these days. It misses the chip to do so. I guess they have added one to the 24LII (just like they did with the 85LII).
